How to Be Funny Texting a Girl Posted: 13 Feb 2021 04:00 PM PST Making a girl laugh is a great way to keep her interested in your conversation, especially when you're texting back and forth. Plus, if you're trying to impress a girl, making her laugh is a great way to her heart. Try using some of these methods the next time you're texting a girl to get a few chuckles or even a full on belly laugh! - Get a feel for her sense of humor. Not everyone laughs at the same things, so you might have to do a little digging. Try texting for a few minutes to see what she thinks is funny.[1]
- She might like dark humor, cute animal pics, funny compliments, stupid puns, or all of the above!
- Try a goofy pun. A pun, or a play on words, is a great way to get someone to laugh (or even groan). You can make one up yourself or try one of the classics, like:[2]
- "What do computers eat for a snack? Microchips!"
- "What do you call a bear with no ears? B."
- "What did the man say when he walked into a bar? Ouch!"
- Create an inside joke. You can make a funny situation out of almost anything as long as it's unique to you two. If you know her in person, try talking about something that happened at school or work. If you're just texting, use your conversation as an inside joke. For example:[3]
- "I respect you for texting me first." "Well I respect you for respecting me." "I respect you for respecting me for respecting you!"
- Send her a goofy meme. Memes are sure to make anyone laugh, and they're a great way to start a conversation. Look on Instagram, Twitter, or Facebook for a funny picture that you know she'd like.[4]
- You could also send a gif for a more interactive meme.
- She might even start sending you memes back!
- Link her to a funny video. Everyone likes to watch silly animals falling over. If you run out of things to say, search YouTube for the funniest kitten video you can find and send her a link.[5]
- Say something like, "watch this if you want to make your day 1000% better."
- Shorter videos are better than longer videos. Try to stick to ones that are only a few minutes long.
[Edit]Questions - Talk about a celebrity crush. Your first celebrity crush might be a little embarrassing, which can lead to a funny conversation! Ask the girl you're texting about her celebrity crush before diving into your own.[6]
- "Who was your first celebrity crush? Mine was Will Ferrell from the movie Elf."
- Spark a conversation with a "would you rather" question. These hypothetical scenarios can be super funny and a lot to talk through. Come up with a few scenarios to ask the girl you're texting, like:[7]
- "Would you rather eat a can of cat food or 2 rotten tomatoes?"
- "Would you rather have your grandma's hairstyle or fashion sense?"
- "Would you rather have hands instead of feet or feet instead of hands?
- Start a conversation with some thought-provoking questions. These "deep" questions are sure to get a chuckle from the girl you're texting. Plus, they'll give you a lot to talk about! For example:[8]
- "Is cereal soup? Why or why not?"
- "What conspiracy theory would you like to start?"
- "If animals could talk, which ones would be the rudest?"
- "What's the most imaginative insult you can come up with?"
[Edit]Flirtation - Keep things lighthearted. Even if you really like this girl, don't take yourself too seriously. Just try to keep things friendly and fun![9]
- However, do try to find subtle ways to let your crush know that you like her—you don't want it to be all super-silly jokes all the time![10]
- Try a cheesy pickup line. When you know how bad a pickup line is, you can make it super funny. Go for a classic, like:[11]
- "I hope you know CPR, because you just took my breath away!"
- "I ought to complain to Spotify for you not being named this week's hottest single."
- "Do you happen to have a bandaid? I scraped my knees falling for you."
- Compliment her with a joke. You can come up with a flirtatious way to give your crush a compliment while still making her chuckle. This works best if you know a little bit about her, so save it until you get to know her. For example:[12]
- "You work out so much, you're giving The Rock a run for his money."
- "I guess your parents are bakers, because they made you such a cutie pie!"
- Accuse her of flirting with you. This is a great way to catch her off guard and make her chuckle. Even if you've been the one flirting with her, you can still use lines like:[13]
- "Hey, stop thinking about me!"
- "I'm trying to be productive, but your flirting keeps distracting me."
- "I didn't realize we had moved past the friendly phase and onto the flirty one."
- Sprinkle in a few strategic emojis. Since you're texting, you have the opportunity to add faces or emojis to every message. Try using them sparingly, like adding a kissy face to a pickup line or a heart eyes face to a flirty question.[14]
- Going overboard with emojis can turn some people off. Try to only use 1 or 2 per message to keep it cool and casual.
- If she doesn't text back right away, don't take it personally! She might just be busy with other things.

How to Stop Telemarketing Calls Posted: 13 Feb 2021 08:00 AM PST There's nothing more obnoxious than being barraged with unwanted calls at all hours of the day. If you've finally had enough of vehicle warranty offers and fantastical sales pitches, there are a handful of great solutions that will put an end to these telemarketing calls. Just keep in mind that scammers rarely play by the rules, and you may continue to get the occasional unwanted call regardless of the steps you take. [Edit]Place your number on the FTC's Do Not Call Registry. - Legitimate companies will not cold call you if your number is registered. It is illegal for companies to call you with sales pitches if you register your number with the FTC. To put your cell phone or landline on the national Do Not Call Registry, visit https://www.donotcall.gov/, or call 1-888-382-1222 and give them your name and number to verify your information.[1]
- Political parties, charities, and non-profit organizations will still be able to call you. This will only weed out the sales calls.[2]
- It can take up to 31 days for the sales calls to stop once you've registered. Don't worry if the calls don't stop the next day.
- Unfortunately, scammers do not care about the Do Not Call Registry, so you may still get some annoying calls from time to time. At least you know they aren't legitimate companies calling, so stay away!
[Edit]Report telemarketers who do call once you're registered. - Once you're on the registry, it is illegal for companies to cold call you. If you do get a telemarketing call, report it. Go to https://www.donotcall.gov/ and click the "report it to the FTC" button on the window that pops up on your screen. Enter the phone number that called you along with the time and subject of the call.[3]
- If putting your number on the Do Not Call Registry wasn't enough to convince them not to call you, finding out that you're reporting their number might motivate them to stop!
- Some scammers spoof their phone number so it appears as a different number every time. If you're getting scam calls from the same area code over and over again, this probably won't solve the problem.
[Edit]Tell telemarketers to stop calling you. - Say, "Please put me on your do not call list" and hang up. You shouldn't pick up a telemarketing or scam call in the first place but if you have important calls you're waiting on, you may end up answering a telemarketing call on accident. Don't fret, argue, or yell; just ask them to put you on their do not call list and hang up.[4]
- Telemarketers can be obnoxiously persistent, so the longer you're on the line with them, the more likely they are to keep pushing your buttons. Just ask them to stop and hang up.
- If the telemarketer is calling from a legitimate company, this should put an end to the calls. Most companies have an internal "do not call" list, and it's illegal in most states to keep calling you after you've asked them to stop.[5]
[Edit]Block telemarketers manually after they call. - This won't help keep the spoofed numbers away, but it will stop persistent companies. On an iPhone, go to your recent calls and click the "i" next to the number that called you. Scroll to the bottom and select "block this caller." On an Android phone, either find the "call blocking" or "call rejection" menu in the settings and enter the number.[6]
- Many Android phones have the ability to block a number in your "recent calls" menu.
- This won't stop scammers if they're spoofing their number, since they're going to automatically call from a new number anyway.
[Edit]Turn on anonymous call blocking. - Call your carrier and ask if they have an anonymous call blocking service. Most carriers do, but you may need to contact them to turn it on for you. Some carriers allow you to call *77 to turn on anonymous call blocking, but double-check first. In some areas, calling *77 will contact the police.[7]
- For some carriers, there's a small charge associated with anonymous call blocking. This may be worth it for you depending on how often you're getting calls from anonymous numbers.
- Some phones have an anonymous call blocking function you can turn on in the "settings" menu.
- This will only block numbers that pop up as "anonymous" on your caller ID. It will not block standard numbers or company calls. Luckily, you can just block those numbers manually, though.
[Edit]Ask your carrier about scam-blocking services. - You don't have to do all of the heavy lifting if your carrier can screen calls for you. Phone companies monitor the traffic on their system, and they have a ton of tools to automatically stop scammers masquerading as telemarketers. You may need to pay a monthly fee for this service, but it may be a good idea if you're really fed up with these calls.[8]
- AT&T has a free app called "AT&T Call Protect" that will block calls.
- For $2.99 a month, you can use Verizon has a "Caller Filter" service to screen calls.
- On T-Mobile, dial #622 to turn on scam filtering. Depending on your plan, this may cost $4 a month.
- Sprint has a "Premier Caller ID" service that costs $2.99 a month that will flag calls.
[Edit]Download an app to block telemarketers and scams. - Robokiller, Hiya, and Nomorobo are popular call screening apps. These apps will screen, block, or identify marketing calls and scammers for you.[9] Some of them also offer additional features, like the ability to block text messages with suspicious links. This is a great option if you want to streamline this process and control what kind of numbers get through.[10]
- "RoboKiller" is especially good at blocking spoofed numbers if you get a lot of scam calls from numbers with the same area code as you.[11]
- All of these apps offer a free trial, and some of them offer a basic free version. Unfortunately, you will have to pay a small monthly fee if you want to permanently access all of their services.
[Edit]Turn on "do not disturb" to block non-contacts. - This is an extreme solution, but it will keep any telemarketers and scammers out. Turn this on to automatically block any number that isn't in your contacts. When a telemarketer or scammer calls you, the call will automatically go to voicemail.[12]
- On Android, open the control center by swiping down and press the "do not disturb" button to turn it on. Then, tap and hold the button to open the settings and select "allow exceptions" to specify who can call.[13]
- On iPhone, go to your settings and tap the "do not disturb" button. Then, select "allow calls from" to enter your exceptions. You can also open the control center and tap the crescent moon icon to turn "do not disturb" on.[14]
- This can make things kind of difficult if you do any business over the phone. If you regularly get legitimate incoming calls from numbers you don't have saved, "do not disturb" will block them from getting through.
- Those robocalls are trying to trick you, so just hang up. If you get a robocall and there is some menu option to be placed on the company's do not call registry, don't bother. Shady companies and scammers use this trick to identify working numbers. Even if they don't call you back, they're going to sell your phone number and/or information to someone else who will keep calling.[15]
- While telling legitimate companies that you don't want to be called may work, the scammers don't care about what you want. Do not engage with scammers when they call.
- If you change your number, you'll need to re-register it on the FTC's Do Not Call Registry.[16]
- Some scammers record their calls and try to trick you into saying "yes." Then, they edit the audio of the call and use your "yes" to make it sound like you're agreeing to be charged for some kind of service. If you ever get a call from a random number and they start off with, "Can you hear me?" just hang up the call.[17]
- Never give out any kind of personal information over the phone if you don't know who you're talking to with 100% certainty.
[Edit]Warnings - The IRS will never call you and ask for money. If they're going to contact you about a missing tax bill or irregularity, they're almost always going to send you mail.[18]
- Those vehicle warranty calls are all nonsense. Some of those warranty calls are from legitimate companies, but the services they offer are either already free or they're so bad that you don't want them anyway.[19]

How to Decorate For Valentine's Day Posted: 13 Feb 2021 12:00 AM PST Decorating for Valentine's Day can be a lot of fun. If you don't have many ideas, however, it can be quite stressful. This article will give you several tips and ideas on how to decorate for this very special day. It will also give you a few simple projects that you can later use to decorate your space with. [Edit]Getting Ideas - Know who you are decorating for. Having an idea of who you will be decorating for can help you decide what sots of themes and colors to use. For example, if you are decorating a classroom for young children, you may want to use larger, more colorful decorations. If you are decorating a classroom for older children (such as teenagers) you might want to tone down the pink and frills, and keep the decorations more subtle.
- Know where you will be putting the decorations. Some decorations work better in some places than others do. For example, you can get away with using larger, brighter decorations in a classroom, but you might want to use smaller, less distracting decorations for your desk or cubicle.
- Make use of the bulletin board in classrooms. Use white or pink for the background, and red for the boarder. Decorate the board with the students' Valentine's day crafts.
- If you are in a cubicle, pin a heart or cupid cut-out to the wall. You can also place a glass bowl with candy hearts on your desk.
- If you work at a desk, try getting a Valentine's day themed figurine, such as a tinsel heart, and placing it on top of a lace doily. You can also place a jar filled with candy hearts on your desk.
- Decorate the windows with garlands and paper cut-outs if you own a shop. These will bring the holiday into your shop without getting in your customers' way.
- Go full out if you are decorating your home, but be mindful of people's private space. Consider decorating family areas, such as the kitchen, living room, and dining room.
- Choose a theme and stick with it. Valentine's Day decorations come in all shapes and sizes. Some look rustic, while others look fancy. Whatever theme you choose, keep it consistent. A rustic, burlap table runner won't look good under an elegant vase filled with a dozen red roses. Here are some common Valentine's Day themes to get you started:
- Old-fashioned themes will be Victorian-inspired. They will often use gold, ivory, and other soft, faded colors. They will be detailed, with lots of lace.
- Rustic themes are popular and make use of burlap, rope, and galvanized steal.
- Traditional themes use a lot of red, white and pink. While hearts are the main focus, you can also expect a cupid here and there.
- Sweet themes are true to their name, and use lots of pastels, candy hearts or heart-shaped chocolates in their design.
- Try going beyond red, pink, and white. These are the three most commonly used colors for Valentine's day, but this doesn't mean that you have to use them. There are other colors that, when used with a heart shape, can also work.
- Use the candy conversation hearts as inspiration. They come in pink, pale yellow, light green, and pastel purple. These are great for kids.
- Red and gold or red and black are romantic, and great for fancy dinners.
- Pink and silver are more delicate, and great for anyone.
[Edit]Decorating Your Space - Choose candles in romantic colors and sweet scents. Candles are perfect for bringing a touch of romance to any space. Red, pink, or white candles, however, would be even better. To step things up a notch, try getting scented candles, especially ones that smell like cookies, cupcakes, roses, and sugar.
- For more ideas on how to use candles, click here.
- Use lots of flowers. Nothing says romance and love like flowers, especially roses. Red roses are the most popular, but pink and white roses are also suitable. You can also use carnations and daisies as well. Arrange the flowers in glass vases. Baby's breath and fern leaves make great fillers.
- For a fancy dinner, tuck a single rose into each napkin ring, along with a white napkin.
- Red roses make perfect gifts for romantic partners. Pink and white roses make great gifts for sons, daughters, mothers, and fathers.
- If you don't want to use flowers, get a pack of fake rose petals from an arts and crafts store instead. You can usually find them in the wedding aisle. Scatter the petals across tables or fireplace mantles. You can also place them in a bowl.
- Place bowls of candy throughout the house or room. For a fancier twist, place the candy in a fake crystal bowl or on a cupcake tray. Conversation hearts and cinnamon hearts are perfect for Valentine's Day. If you don't like those candies, however, try chocolates, or other red-colored candies.
- Use table runners and lace doilies. Drape table runners over the tabletops before you set things down, such as flowers and candles. You can also use doilies instead. For example, a large, glass vase filled with red roses would look romantic set atop a large, white, lace doily.
- If your table runner is plain, you can paint hearts onto it using stencils and red or pink fabric paint.
- You can also dress up a plain table runner by gluing down some wide lace down the center.
- If the runner is narrow enough, you might be able to place it on your fireplace mantle.
- Make use of store-bought decorations. They usually start appearing in stores around January. Party supply stores and arts and crafts stores often have a lot to choose from. Some department stores may also sell them. Here is a list of store-bought decorations, and how you can use them:
- Drape banners across doorways, fireplace mantles, and windows.
- Pin or tape cupid and heart cut-outs on doors, above fireplace mantles, and on windows.
- Hang wreaths on doors or above fireplace mantles.
- Place tissue balls and flower balls in glass bowls. If they come with a ribbon or string loop, you can hang them up instead.
- Place figurines, miniature plants, and tiny topiaries on mantles and desks.
[Edit]Using and Decorating Candles - Put candles on tables and fireplace mantles. If you are using pillar candles, use both short and tall ones. This will make your mantle look more interesting. Also, try to use a color that contrasts with the mantle, or the wall behind it. For example, if you have a dark-colored mantle, use white or ivory candles. If you have a white mantle, use pink candles for a softer look, or red candles for a romantic look.
- Red, pink, and white/ivory are typical Valentine's day colors. You can also use gold or silver.
- Add to existing pillar candles. If you can't find any red or pink candles, but don't want to use plain white candles, you can always dress up what you have. Wrap some twine or thick lace around the middle of a candle, and secure it with a piece of clear tape or a drop of glue. Stick a heart-shaped button or sticker in the middle.[1]
- You can also wrap strips of double-sided tape around a candle, and then roll the candle around in glitter. Use Valentine's day colors, such as pink, red, gold, or silver. You can match the glitter to the candle color, or use a contrasting color, such as gold glitter on a red candle.
- Decorate the trays, chargers, and stands you put pillar candles on. This is great for those who have plain candles and don't feel like decorating them. It can turn a plain set of candles into Valentine's day ones with little effort. Place your pillar candles on the base first. Next, scatter some conversation hearts or glass marbles across the base, between the candles.
- Use Valentine's day colors for the glass marbles, such as red, pink, silver, and gold.
- Use floating candles for a more romantic look. Fill a shallow, glass bowl with water, and add some floating candles. For some more color, scatter some red or pink glass marbles across the bottom of the bowl. You can use ordinary white floating candles or rose-shaped ones (in red, pink, white, gold, or silver).
- For a twist on the floating candle, consider using a tall, cylindrical vase or a mason jar instead of a glass bowl. Fill the vase or jar almost to the top with water, and add the candle.
- Fill a cylindrical or hurricane vase with pink and/or white sand and stick a pillar candle on top. You can also use other vase fillers as well, such as conversation hearts or glass marbles in pink, red, or clear. Try to use a contrasting color for the candle, so if you are using pink filler, use a white candle. For a finishing touch, wrap some pink or red ribbon around the middle of the vase, and tie it in a bow.[2]
- To use less filler: place a small can inside the vase, and stick the candle on top. Fill the space around the can with filler, all the way up to the top of the can. When you are done, the can should not be visible.
[Edit]Making Decorations - Make some Valentine's Day candle holders using mason jars, paint, and glitter. Cut a large heart out of adhesive paper, and stick it onto the side of the jar. Paint over the jar using Mod Podge. Shake on some white, pink, or red glitter, and then peel off the heart. You will be left with a heart-shaped hole; the candle light will shine through this hole. Wait for the glue to dry, then tie a pretty pink ribbon around the mouth of the jar.[3]
- Wipe the entire jar down with rubbing alcohol first. It will help the glitter stick better.
- Consider painting the jar first. Match the color of the paint to the glitter you will use.
- Try to use fine, scrapbooking glitter instead of thick, chunky glitter. It will look more professional.
- Make a heart tree using tree branches and hearts. Go outside and find a tree branch; it should be no longer than your arm, with thin, delicate twigs. Cut some hearts out of pink, white, and/or red paper. Glue the hearts onto the twigs using hot glue. Stick the branch into a vase.
- Try using pearly scrapbook paper or glitter paper. It will look more romantic.
- Make a simple garland. Find cardstock in red, pink, and white. Punch or cut hearts out of the cardstock. Arrange the hearts in a row, making sure to leave some space between each one. Draw a thin line of glue along the center of each heart, going from side to side. Cut a long piece of string, and place it across the hearts, right on top of the glue.
- For a romantic garland, fold lace, paper doilies over a piece of string. Secure the doilies with a drop of glue on the inside.
- To decorate for school or a book-lover, use photocopies of book pages instead.
- Make a giant conversation heart garland. Cut large hearts out of pastel-colored paper, and write cute messages using red marker. Punch a hole through the left and right sides of each heart. Tie the hearts together using shiny, white ribbon; be sure to tie the ribbon into cute bows. Tie a piece of ribbon onto each end of the garland so that you can hang it up.[4]
- Aim to make each heart about 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) across.
- For a simpler garland, use smaller hearts. Glue the hearts across the middle to the string. Leave about 12 inches (30.48 centimeters) on each end of the string so that you can hang it up.
- Sew a garland. Cut hearts out of red, pink, and white felt. Place red thread in your sewing machine. Sew the hearts across the center, from top to bottom. Feed hearts into the sewing machine, one after the other, until they are all included on one long piece of string. Back stitch at both ends to ensure the thread doesn't unwind. Hang it with tacks in a doorway, or lay it across a table.
- Add some sparkle to just about anything with glitter. Apply some white glue onto the area you want glittery. If you want to use more than one color, start with your first color; you will apply the other colors later. Shake the glitter onto the glue, then tap the excess off. If you want to add more colors, apply the glue for your next color. You can apply glitter to just about anything, including candles, jars, and cards.
- Use Valentine's day colors, such as red, pink, and iridescent, when coloring large areas.
- Use gold and silver for small, accent areas.
- For large areas, use loose glitter and glue. You can use spray-on glue, or liquid glue. Use a paintbrush or foam brush to apply the liquid glue.
- Use double-sided tape on boarders. Place the tape down first, then shake some glitter over it.
- Use glitter glue pens for fine, detailed areas. Glitter glue pens will also work for letters.
- Make some Valentine's Day cards for your loved ones. Use cardstock, lace doilies, and glue to layer a heart design. Color the card with colored pencils, markers or crayons. When you are done, you can pin the Valentines to walls or windows for decoration.
