How to Groom a Rabbit

Posted: 05 Mar 2021 04:00 PM PST

Is there anything cuter than a soft, fluffy-tailed rabbit? Bunnies are social animals, and they can make great pets as long as you go into it knowing that they require a lot of care. Although they spend a lot of their time grooming themselves, your rabbit will also need some help from you to keep it healthy and clean.

[Edit]Steps

[Edit]Fur

  1. Brush your rabbit every 3-7 days. Rabbits groom themselves frequently, but they still need help from you. If you don't brush them regularly, they can ingest too much hair, which can lead to serious health problems.[1] To prevent this, most rabbits need to be brushed about every 3 days or so. If you have a long-haired rabbit, you might need to brush it even more often, while you may be able to brush short-haired rabbits about once a week.[2]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 1 Version 3.jpg
    • If your rabbit's poops are linked together, chances are it's ingesting too much hair. Try brushing it more often.
    • If you don't see much loose hair after grooming your rabbit, you're probably okay to wait a little longer between brushing sessions.
  2. Groom your rabbit daily when it's shedding heavily. Rabbits shed their fur about once every 3 months—and every other shed is typically a very heavy one where they lose most of their coat. When this is happening, brush your rabbit at least once a day, if not more often. Otherwise, you'll have a lot of hair everywhere, and your rabbit will get sick from trying to groom away all that extra fur.[3]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 2 Version 3.jpg
    • Depending on the rabbit, its shed might happen all in one day, over a period of several days, or even over a few weeks.
    • It's common for rabbits to develop some bald spots while they're shedding. Don't worry too much if you see this, as long as the spots aren't flaky and don't seem to bother your rabbit. Ask your vet if you're not sure, though.[4]
  3. Use a soft brush made for cats or rabbits. Since rabbits have sensitive skin, some of them really hate being brushed, especially if you use a stiff brush. It can take some trial and error to find the type of brush that makes your rabbit most comfortable, but soft cat brushes tend to work well.[5] Other options include:
    Groom a Rabbit Step 3 Version 3.jpg
    • Flea comb
    • Rubber brush[6]
    • Fine-tooth comb made for people
    • Glove brush
  4. Massage your rabbit to calm them before you start brushing. Don't try to brush your rabbit when it's excited or scared—that's just going to make it more anxious about being groomed in the future. Instead, take a few minutes to pet it calmly before you start grooming, making sure your rabbit is settled and comfortable.[7]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 4 Version 3.jpg
    • Most rabbits will be most comfortable if you groom them on the floor, but if your rabbit doesn't mind being handled, you can put it on your lap.
  5. Start by wiping your rabbit's bottom with a damp cloth. Sometimes urine or droppings can get stuck in your rabbit's fur. If you don't clean this, it can irritate your rabbit's skin, so take a moment to wipe its underside with a damp cloth or cotton pad before you start brushing.[8]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 5 Version 3.jpg
    • This will also make sure you don't accidentally spread urine or feces while you're brushing your rabbit's fur.
    • If your rabbit is overweight, it might especially have a hard time keeping its bottom clean.
  6. Begin gently brushing in the direction of your rabbit's fur. Pet your rabbit with one hand to keep it calm and hold it in place. At the same time, use your other hand to very gently stroke the brush or comb across your rabbit's fur. Don't press down too hard or you could irritate your rabbit's thin, sensitive skin.[9]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 6 Version 3.jpg
    • If you're using a comb, hold it sideways so it's almost parallel to your rabbit's skin. [10]
    • Brush in the direction that your rabbit's fur grows—most rabbits won't like it if you brush the other way.
    • To keep your rabbit calm, start by brushing the top of its head and its back. Once your rabbit has had a few grooming sessions, gradually move down to brushing its lower face and chin.[11]
  7. Remove any loose tufts that you see. As you brush your rabbit, you'll probably see tufts of fur starting to form. Keep petting the rabbit with your free hand and use the hand that's holding the brush to pluck these tufts loose. Your rabbit usually won't mind that you're doing this as long as you're gentle.[12]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 7 Version 2.jpg
    • You can also use a glove brush or a rubber brush to help you collect these tufts.
  8. Remove mats with a fur splitter and a friend. If you notice any mats or clumps in your rabbit's fur, ask someone to help you—it can be a little tough to keep your rabbit still while you comb these out. Have the other person hold the rabbit steady while you use a fur splitter to gently separate and remove the mats.[13]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 8 Version 2.jpg
    • A fur splitter is a specialized wide-tooth comb that allows you to tease the mats out of your rabbit's fur without yanking.
    • Mats often form on the pads of a rabbit's feet, so remember to check there, as well.[14]
    • If the matted fur is too clumped to comb, it's best to take your rabbit to your vet or a professional groomer. If you're comfortable using animal clippers, you can shave away the mats, but be very careful, because it's very easy to tear or cut your rabbit's skin.
    • Don't use scissors to remove the mats from your rabbit's fur, as it's very easy to accidentally cut them.
  9. Check for parasites as you brush your bunny. Look carefully at your rabbit's skin and fur as you groom it, keeping an eye out for things like mites, fleas, or ticks. Also, check for flaky skin or bald patches, which could be signs of parasites. Parasites can make your rabbit very uncomfortable or even sick, so if you do notice any of these, call your vet right away and ask them about treatment options.[15]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 9 Version 2.jpg
    • Fleas are tiny black insects, and you'll tend to notice them around your bunny's head or groin area.
    • Ticks are larger, round insects, and you might see them crawling in your bunny's fur or attached to their skin.
    • Mites will look like dandruff. Also check for dark debris in your bunny's ear, which could be a sign of ear mites.
  10. Spot-bathe your bunny if its fur is soiled. Rabbits generally don't need to be bathed, but occasionally, their fur may get soiled with urine or feces. If that happens, dip only the rabbit's bottom in warm water and use your hand to cleanse the area. Then, towel-dry your rabbit thoroughly, or use a blow dryer set to warm (not hot) to dry their fur.[16]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 10 Version 2.jpg
    • Don't ever put a rabbit completely in water—it could lead to shock.
    • You can also give your rabbit a dry bath. To do that, sprinkle a little cornstarch onto the area that needs to be cleaned and massage it into your rabbit's fur. Then, comb the cornstarch out of the fur and use a cloth to wipe away any excess.[17]

[Edit]Face and Scent Glands

  1. Check your rabbit's eyes and nose anytime you brush it. Grooming is the perfect time to examine your bunny to make sure it doesn't have any health problems going on. Check whether it has any discharge coming from its eyes or nose.[18] Also, make sure its eyes aren't crusty, cloudy, or irritated. If you notice anything, call your vet.[19]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 11 Version 2.jpg
    • Also, feel around its jaw to make sure it doesn't have any lumps or abscesses.
  2. Examine its teeth at each grooming as well. While you're doing that, look at the rabbit's front teeth to make sure they don't look overgrown or chipped. Also, check its gums to make sure they're pink—not red or purple, which could be a sign of inflammation.[20]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 12 Version 2.jpg
    • In addition, make sure your rabbit isn't drooling and doesn't have a bad odor coming from its mouth. These could be signs of a problem with its back teeth.
  3. Wipe away any residue around its eyes with a moist cotton ball. Your bunny might sometimes have a little gunk around its eyes—as long as it's not crusty and its eyes aren't watering, this is normal and doesn't mean there's a problem. However, to keep the area around your rabbit's eyes from getting irritated, wipe the area with a damp cotton ball any time you see any moisture or buildup there.[21]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 13 Version 2.jpg
    • Only wipe the area around your rabbit's eyes—never touch its eyeball.
    • This will also remove any hay that might get into the rabbit's eyes.
  4. Brush any fur out of your rabbit's eyes with a mascara brush. If your rabbit has long hair, it can grow down into its eyes, which can lead to irritation. Check for this when you're examining your rabbit's eyes. If you notice any hair over its eyes, use a small spoolie to smooth back the hair around your bunny's eyes each time you brush your rabbit. You can also use a small flea comb.[22]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 14 Version 2.jpg
    • If brushing the hair doesn't help, use a small pair of scissors to carefully trim it out of the way.
  5. Wipe ear wax from the outer ear with a cotton swab during grooming. Each time you groom your rabbit, carefully wipe any waxy buildup out of your bunny's ear, but be careful to always swipe outward. Don't push down, or it could push wax further into the ear canal. Also, never try to remove wax from deep in the ear canal.
    Groom a Rabbit Step 15 Version 2.jpg
    • If your bunny has wax buildup deep in their ear, ask your vet to recommend an ear wash solution, and talk to them about the safest way to use it. However, this is best done under a vet's supervision.[23]
  6. Clean your rabbit's scent glands with mineral oil when necessary. Look for the two slits on either side of your rabbit's genitals—these are its scent glands. Dip a cotton ball or cotton swab in some mineral oil and gently swipe it onto these glands. That will soften the waxy buildup there so you can carefully wipe it away with a clean cotton ball or swab.[24]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 16.jpg
    • Bunnies have glands near their anus that release their scent. These glands can become clogged, so if you notice a bad odor coming from your rabbit, it's a good idea to clean their scent glands.
    • These glands are made of a very sensitive membrane, so be extremely gentle when you do this, or the membrane could tear.[25]

[Edit]Nails

  1. Clip your rabbit's nails every 1-2 months. Rabbit's nails grow continuously, and if you don't clip them, your bunny could accidentally scratch you. It also becomes uncomfortable for your rabbit when its nails get too long, so keep an eye on them, and trim them anytime they start growing long.[26]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 17.jpg
    • If you're not comfortable trimming your bunny's nails yourself, take them to your vet for a trimming.
  2. Use a guillotine-style nail clipper. This might be a scary-sounding name, but don't worry—it's the same basic type of nail clipper that's used for cats and birds. These are the perfect size for trimming your bunny's nails, too! You can pick one up at any pet store.[27]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 18.jpg
    • If you have a baby bunny, it's easiest to just file its nails with an emery board until it gets big enough for this type of clipper.[28]
  3. Use a penlight to see the quick if your rabbit has dark nails. Just like cats and dogs, rabbits have a blood supply that runs a certain length down their nails. This is called the quick, and it can be hard to see if your rabbit has dark-colored nails. To make the quick easier to see, hold a penlight behind the claw—don't trim into the area that looks darker in the light.[29]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 19.jpg
    • It's pretty easy to see the quick if your rabbit has light-colored nails, so don't worry about using a light.
  4. Wrap the back half of your bunny in a towel to trim its front paws. It can be pretty hard to hold a wiggly rabbit still while you trim its nails. To make this easier, wrap your rabbit's back legs in a towel, but leave its front paws free. Then, simply hold one front paw at a time while you clip its nails.
    Groom a Rabbit Step 20.jpg
    • It's a good idea to have one person cradle the rabbit in the towel while the other person holds the clippers.[30]
    • If your rabbit is super calm, you might not even need the towel. Just hold the bunny at the edge of a table so it's cradled against your body. This will help it feel secure as you trim its front paws.[31]
    • Be patient—the rabbit will likely try to pull its paws back as you do this. Pet the rabbit to keep it calm, and take a break if it starts to panic.
  5. Hold the bunny upright to trim its back claws. Securely hold your rabbit with one hand on its chest, then lift it up so it's standing on its hind legs. Keep the bunny pressed against you, then use your free hand to trim the nails on its back paws.[32]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 21.jpg
    • Some people find that it's actually easier to trim the back paws.
    • It can help to have someone else hold the bunny upright as you clip.
  6. Apply styptic powder to the nail if you trim too far. If you do accidentally cut into the quick, don't panic. Take a little styptic powder between your thumb and forefinger and press it into the nail. Hold a finger over the powder for about 1 minute, applying steady pressure. The bleeding should stop, and the styptic powder will also help numb any pain the rabbit is feeling.[33]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 22.jpg
    • You can also use flour or cornstarch if you don't have styptic powder on hand.[34]
    • If the bleeding doesn't stop after about 10 minutes, call your vet.
  7. Place soft rugs in your rabbit's enclosure if the fur on its feet wears down. When you're clipping your bunny's nails, take a good look at its feet. If the padding, or fur, is worn down, it can lead to serious irritation. To help avoid that, use soft resting pads, or rugs, in your bunny's habitat or the floor of its enclosure.[35]
    Groom a Rabbit Step 23.jpg

[Edit]Tips

  • Take your time with grooming—think of it as a bonding experience.[36]
  • Keep your rabbit's rugs and litter boxes clean and dry—their skin is very susceptible to infection.[37]
  • Consider keeping long-haired rabbits' fur trimmed to about to cut down on hairballs.[38]

[Edit]Warnings

  • Do not lay your rabbit on its back—this can lead to trancing, which is stressful and dangerous for your rabbit.[39]
  • When you're clipping your rabbit's claws, take care not to clip into the quick. This is painful for the rabbit and can cause bleeding.
  • Do not try to clean inside your rabbit's inner ear canal. If it has waxy buildup deep in the ear, ask your vet about an ear cleaning solution.

How to Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle

Posted: 05 Mar 2021 08:00 AM PST

Before you donate or sell your car, it's important to calculate its fair market value (FMV). The FMV will tell you how much your car is worth on the private market or for tax purposes. While it's not an exact science, entering your car's details in an automobile industry website, such as Edmunds, will give you the most accurate valuation. You can also browse the local car ads to see what similar cars are selling for in your area.

[Edit]Steps

[Edit]Calculating Your Car's FMV

  1. Go to Edmunds (www.edmunds.com) or Kelley Blue Book (www.kbb.com). On the main page of each site, look for a tab or icon that states "Price My Car" or something similar. After you click on this tab it will take you to a brief form to fill out. The website will then use the information that you supply to come up with a market value estimate for your car.[1]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 1 Version 2.jpg
    • These sites will give you an estimate free of charge in most cases. If you choose to list your vehicle for sale on their site, there may be additional fees.
  2. Enter in the exact year and model for your vehicle. After you leave the main website and head into the used car category, one of the first pieces of information that you'll need to supply will be the date of creation for the vehicle and the model (or type of body) for the vehicle. This information should be listed on your owner's manual or may even appear on the inside of your driver's door.[2]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 2 Version 2.jpg
    • If you are uncertain of the year, enter in a date range. If you are uncertain about the model, look up similar vehicles online until you find one that looks that same as yours.
  3. Provide your car's mileage. Look at the odometer on your car and you'll see a series of numbers that shows the car's mileage. You may need to turn on your car to see this display on newer vehicles. Then, enter in this number where prompted on the FMV website. Put simply, cars with fewer miles are almost always worth more than those with many miles.[3]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 3 Version 2.jpg
  4. Plug in your zipcode or city name. This information allows the website to tailor your car's FMV to your particular area. This is important because the FMV of a vehicle can shift according to supply and demand. If the demand for your type of car is high in your area, then your FMV will reflect this.[4]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 4 Version 2.jpg
    • For example, if you live in a city area, then smaller vehicles may be in demand and could end up with high FMVs.
  5. List out all of your car's options and amenities. Walk around your car from bumper to bumper and write down everything that makes it unique compared to other vehicles. Many of these options will be for a driver's convenience or comfort, such as power windows and locks. You might also list chrome bumpers/mirrors, AC, window tinting, sunroof, leather interior, sound system extras, and any guidance systems.[5]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 5 Version 2.jpg
  6. Be honest about your car's condition. It sometimes helps to assess your car in terms of exterior, interior, and mechanical condition.[6] Note any flaws in these separate areas. Then, read over the levels provided by the website and chose the one that most closely fits your vehicle.[7]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 6 Version 2.jpg
    • For example, a car that no longer runs might be assessed as "Poor" or "Not Running" in the mechanical category.
  7. Save or print out copies of your final report. After you've entered in all of the requested information, click the tab on the bottom to get your pricing report. When the report pulls up, read over it. Then, save a PDF to your computer and print out a few copies for your reference.[8]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 7 Version 2.jpg
    • Potential buyers might also want a copy of the FMV estimate. This lets them know that your asking price is fair and reasonable.

[Edit]Making Other FMV Comparisons

  1. Recognize that FMV is different than trade-in value. According to the Internal Revenue Service, a FMV is an estimate of the sales amount that a private seller and buyer would agree to for a vehicle. In contrast, a trade-in value is what a dealership would offer. It's also important to note that the FMV is calculated based on the actions of willing buyers/sellers, not ones under duress.[9]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 8 Version 2.jpg
    • Trade-in values for used cars are also often altered by dealers to boost vehicle sales. An FMV estimate is more consistent.
  2. Enter in reasonable comparison details if you don't know the exact information. If you are looking up an estimate for someone else or if you are researching an older vehicle, you may not know every detail requested by the website. That's okay. Enter in a number of years or a series of options to create a workable value range.[10]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 9 Version 2.jpg
    • For example, if you know that the car was made in the late 1990s, enter in 1996, 1997, 1998, and, 1999. Note how the values differ with each year.
  3. Compare your car to others currently for sale.[11] Look at the automobile listings in your local newspaper. Or, go to a used auto sales website such as www.autotrader.com, enter in your zipcode, and search for similar cars in your area. Make note of the asking prices for cars that are similar to your own.[12]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 10 Version 2.jpg
    • For example, if you are selling a 1999 Mustang and see a 2000 model in your local paper, note the price. It's probably a bit higher than your car's FMV, but may be pretty close to it.

[Edit]Changing Your Car's FMV

  1. Adjust your FMV if you take a while to sell your car. Your car's FMV is time-specific, meaning that it can change if you take months or even years to donate or sell your vehicle. Every month or so re-visit the estimate websites and enter in your car's information to get an up-to-date FMV. You may also want to change your car's asking price based on this new estimate.[13]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 11 Version 2.jpg
    • For example, you may find that the FMV for a convertible might actually go up during the warmer months, as they are more in demand.
  2. Clean your car on the inside and out. You can do this yourself or you can take it to a detailing place. If you can remove any imperfections, such as stains on the upholstery, then this will increase your car's value.[14] If you have a few dings on the exterior, buy touch-up paint and make these corrections, too.[15]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 12 Version 2.jpg
    • Professional detailing can be costly. Weigh the benefits of a boosted FMV versus the out-of-pocket cost for cleaning.
  3. Pay a mechanic to assess and fix any mechanical problems. If your car is newer or collectible, take it a local, trusted mechanic and ask them to evaluate it for any issues.[16] Then, decide if the cost of fixing these problems will boost your FMV up enough to warrant the expense. Even making minor repairs, such as replacing the window wipers, might pay off if you can report a higher condition rating for your vehicle.[17]
Determine the Fair Market Value of a Vehicle Step 13 Version 2.jpg

[Edit]Tips

  • If you choose to donate your vehicle for a charity, make sure to get a receipt showing their name, the date of the donation, and the good description of your car. This will make it easier to deduct the FMV of the car from your taxes.[18]

[Edit]Warnings

  • Only a donation to a "qualified charity" can be deducted from your taxes, according to the IRS. Check the IRS website for a list of approved organizations.[19]

    • Mira HQ: This is a smaller map with an interconnected vent system spanning the entire map, giving the impostors plenty of opportunities to get around the level and cut off other players. It also has a decontamination room that slows down crewmates.
    • Polus: This is a large map with two decontamination rooms and also has cameras that cover a large area of the map. This map is better for experienced players.
  7. Select the number of impostors. You can have 1-3 impostors in a game. Tap a number next to "Impostors" at the top of the screen to select how many you want. Tap Any to select a random number of impostors.
How to Play Among Us Step 10 (v2).jpeg
  8. Select your chat language. Use the drop-down menu next to "Chat" to select the primary language for the in-game chat.
How to Play Among Us Step 11.jpeg
  9. Pick a lobby to join. If there are spaces available, you'll be added to the game's lobby, otherwise you'll be informed that the game's full and you'll need to join a different lobby.
How to Play Among Us Step 12.jpeg
    • Once you join a game, you'll need to wait in the lobby until enough players join for the game to start.
    • Once the game starts, all players will be randomly assigned a role as either a crewmate or impostor.

[Edit]Playing as a Crewmate

  1. Understand the role of a crewmate. As a crewmate, your goal is to complete randomly assigned tasks without being killed by the imposter. Crewmates should also be on the lookout for suspicious (often referred to as "sus") or incriminating behavior. This may include murdering other crewmates, entering or exiting a vent (venting), pretending to do tasks, or using suspicious dialogue during emergency meetings.
    Crewmate6.jpg
    • If an emergency meeting is called, crewmates will have the opportunity to vote on who they think the imposter is. Whoever gets the most votes is ejected from the ship. If all imposters are ejected from the ship, or all tasks are completed, the crewmates win. If the imposter(s) murder enough crewmates to where the is an equal number of imposters to crewmates, imposters win.
  2. Use the joystick icon on the left to move. It's the icon with a circle inside of a larger circle. Tap and drag it in the direction you want to move to walk. The walking speed will vary depending on the host's game settings.
How to Play Among Us Step 22.jpeg
    • Try and stay with a group. This can help reduce any suspicion of you being the impostor and is especially helpful for visual tasks, such as scanning or emptying the trash, since others will see you doing it.
  3. Look at the top of the screen for your tasks. Once the game starts, your tasks should be listed in the upper left-hand corner of your screen. The number of tasks will vary, depending on how many the game's host chose.
How to Play Among Us Step 23.jpeg
  4. Complete tasks. As you move around the map, you'll see items highlighted in yellow. Walk up to them and press the triangle-shaped Use button on the bottom-right of the screen. This will either initiate a mini-game that generally consists of simple puzzles or objects to move
How to Play Among Us Step 24.jpeg
    • Some tasks have multiple parts. Yellow arrows on the screen or yellow exclamation marks on the map indicate where to go to complete tasks.
    • If visual tasks are on, certain tasks will display an animation that can be viewed by other players (e.g., Medbay scan, shooting asteroids, Dumping trash in the Skeld storage room, etc.). Do these tasks in front of other players so they know you are not the imposter. Imposters can't do tasks.
    • If Task Bar Updates are set to Always, then the bar in the top right will slowly fill as tasks are completed. Keep in mind that certain tasks (e.g., Fixing wires, aligning engines, Upload Data, etc.) have multiple parts and will only update the bar once the last section is completed.
  5. Tap if you find a dead body. This calls all players (impostors and crew) to an emergency meeting. Here you can chat with other crew members and vote on who you think the impostor is.
How to Play Among Us Step 25 (v2).jpeg
    • Pay attention to who is near an area where you see a body. For example, if you see blue walking out of electrical, and walk in to find a body, bring that up in the chat.
    • If you're standing near the body and don't report it, but someone else comes along and does, then be prepared to be accused of being the impostor. This is why it's so important to report a body as soon as you see it.
  6. Use the "Emergency Meeting" console to call an emergency meeting. If one of the crew members is acting suspicious, you can call an emergency meeting to discuss your suspicions. Walk up to the "Emergency Meeting" console that is located at the table that all players are gathered around at the start of the game. Tap Use to call an emergency meeting.
How to Play Among Us Step 26.jpeg
    • Avoid calling emergency meetings for nonsense such as accusing someone of being the impostor with no evidence or anything unrelated to the game. You'll either get voted out or kicked.
    • If you notice someone killing or using a vent, be sure to mention it right away in the chat as only impostors can kill or use vents.
  7. Tap the speech box icon in the upper-right corner to chat during an emergency meeting. When an emergency meeting is called, this is your time to discuss your suspicions with your crew members. Tap the icon that resembles a speech bubble in the upper-right corner to open the chat.
How to Play Among Us Step 28.jpeg
    • For convenience, players usually identify each other by their color. Pay attention if other crewmates say something like "It's red", "I saw black kill", "I saw lime vent", or "Pink is sus", but be aware that it might be the impostor lying.
  8. Use the text field at the bottom to chat. To chat, tap the text field at the bottom and use the on-screen keyboard to enter a message. Tap the triangular icon to the right to post your message in the chat.
How to Play Among Us Step 29.jpeg
  9. Vote for who you think the impostor is. When an emergency meeting is called, you will be given time to discuss your suspicions. When the discussion timer ends, you can then choose to either vote on who you think the impostor is, or skip your vote if you don't think there's enough evidence. To vote, tap the player you think is the impostor, and then tap the checkmark icon to submit your vote.
How to Play Among Us Step 30.jpeg
    • Once everyone votes or the allotted time is up, the votes will be tallied. Whoever gets the most votes will be ejected from the map.
    • When reports come in, ask where the body was found and what people were doing at the time. Pay attention to what everyone says and point out anything that seems suspicious.
    • Depending on the settings, players may or may not be informed if the ejected player was actually an impostor.
    • Pay attention to who people vote for and when they vote. Some Impostors look to see which way the vote is going before they vote.
  10. Use the Admin table. This allows you to see which room players are in. To use it, walk up to the table and tap the ADMIN button on the bottom-right of the screen. This will pull up a green map that displays players instead of tasks.
How to Play Among Us Step 31.jpeg
    • The map doesn't show the identity of players, nor does it show players in hallways.
    • If a light disappears from a room then immediately reappears somewhere then the person is venting.
    • If a light blips (flashes quickly off then on) in a room with two or more people, then it's very likely a crewmate was just killed. The lights tend to blink slower for normal player movement.
  11. Use the Door Logs (Mira HQ only). This allows you to get a sense of the players' movements between the three sections of the map. To use it, walk up to the computer and tap the DOOR LOGS button on the bottom-right of the screen.
How to Play Among Us Step 32.jpeg
    • Certain sensors can only be tripped in a specific order.[3] For example, if someone trips the top sensor, then the left sensor, then the right sensor, they're 100% an impostor as that can only be done by venting (ie. players must pass the same sensor when exiting an area).
  12. Use the Vitals panel. This shows you who's alive or dead without having to call an emergency meeting.
How to Play Among Us Step 33.jpeg
    • If you see someone die on Vitals and a report immediately comes in, it's very likely to be a self-report.
    • Players are listed from left-to-right in the order that they joined the lobby. This can be used alongside the 'Insert Keys' task to check if the Impostor is lying if asked about their key number.
  13. Use the Security cameras (Skeld and Polus only). These are placed in the hallways and allow you to view specific sections of the map in real-time. To use them, walk up the monitor and tap the SECURITY button on the bottom right of the screen.
How to Play Among Us Step 34.jpeg
    • Skeld has four cameras: one outside Navigation (top left), one outside Admin (top right), one outside Medbay (bottom left), and one outside Security and Reactor (bottom right).
    • Polus has six cameras: three outside the Office (East, South, and Central), one close to the rocket (Northeast), one outside the Boiler (Southwest), and one between Electrical and the Dropship (Northwest).
    • On Skeld you can view all cameras at once, but on Polus, you have to switch between them FNAF style.
    • A red light turns on whenever someone's using the camera, so use this to try to fake out potential Impostors by turning them on and off. If they fall for it, you can call an emergency meeting and call them out.
  14. Continue playing as a ghost. If you are killed by an impostor or get voted out, you can still traverse the map as a ghost and complete tasks to help the crewmates win.
How to Play Among Us (CGhost).jpeg
    • You're not allowed to vote or speak to alive players during emergency meetings. That would make the game unfair.
    • You can speak with other ghosts without having to wait for an emergency meeting.
    • Both alive and dead crewmates must complete their tasks to win.
  15. Win the game. Crewmates win by either voting out all the impostors or by finishing all their tasks.

[Edit]Playing as an Impostor

  1. Understand the role of imposters. As an imposter, you are an alien that has infiltrated the crew. Your goal is to kill as many crewmates as possible without being detected. As an imposter, you cannot complete tasks as crewmates can. However, imposters do have a few unique skills. They are able to use vents to travel around the map (venting). They can also sabotage certain areas of the map.
    Impostor8.jpg
    • Sabotaging the map allows you to set traps, draw crewmates away from bodies, or create critical malfunctions that will kill the crewmates if they are not repaired in time. If the imposter eliminates enough crewmates so that there are an equal number of crewmembers.
  2. Use the joystick icon on the left to move. It's the icon with a circle inside of a larger circle. Tap and drag it in the direction you wish to walk in.
How to Play Among Us Step 39.jpeg
    • The walking speed will vary depending on the host's game settings.
  3. Avoid arousing suspicion. If the crewmates suspect you're the impostor, they'll report you and eject you, so try to blend in by pretending to do tasks.
How to Play Among Us Step 40.jpeg
    • Some tasks are always performed in a certain order such as Download/Upload (download always comes first) or Dumping garbage on Skeld (Cafeteria then Storage). If you're not sure, check the Among Us Wiki page on tasks.
    • Avoid trying to fake visual tasks even if it's set to "off". Not only can people call you out on the animation not playing (if it's set to "on"), but crewmates with the same task can attempt to perform their task while you're trying to fake it, something that would be impossible if you were actually a crewmate.
    • Try and stay with a group. This can help reduce suspicion as there'll be people who can vouch for you.
  4. Travel through vents. Vents are placed at specific locations around the map and can be used by Impostors to quickly move from one room to another. To use a vent, walk up to one and tap the Vent button in the lower-right corner to enter it, then tap one of the arrows to move to a different vent. Once you're ready to emerge from the vent, simply tap the Vent button again.
How to Play Among Us Step 41.jpeg
    • Do not let crewmates see you entering or emerging from a vent. They will instantly know you are the impostor and will attempt to call an emergency meeting. If you see a crewmate in the same room, wait until they leave to emerge.
    • If you get seen, try to slow them down by locking doors (Skeld and Polus) or by performing critical sabotages, then kill them before you get ratted out.
  5. Sabotage rooms. Sabotaging a room will do different things depending on the room. To sabotage, tap the Sabotage button in the lower-right corner to display a red map with various sabotage options instead of tasks, then tap on the room you want to sabotage.
How to Play Among Us Step 42.jpeg
    • The different types of sabotages that you can perform are:
    • Lock doors (X-ed out symbol): Only on Skeld and Polus (on Skeld, doors will reopen automatically after a few seconds, but on Polus, they must be unlocked again manually).
    • Cut the Lights (Lightning symbol): Effectively blinds crewmates as their FOV shrinks to a small circle immediately around themselves; to fix it, players must go to a panel in Electrical (Skeld & Polus) or in the Office (Mira HQ) and flip the switches so all the green indicators turn on).
    • Deactivate Communications/Comms (Wi-Fi symbol): Hides crewmate tasks, the task bar, and prevents the use of the Admin Table, Cameras (Skeld & Polus only), and Door Logs (Mira HQ only; clears logs and prevents new ones from being recorded), and the Vitals Monitor (Polus only). On Skeld and Polus, this is fixed by turning a dial until the displayed frequency resembles a sine wave, while on Mira HQ, it's fixed by entering a 5-digit passcode in both the Office and Communications rooms (the code resets every 10 seconds).
    • Oxygen Depletion (O2 symbol; Skeld & Mira HQ only): A critical sabotage that forces the crewmates to fix it within the time limit (30 seconds on Skeld, 45 seconds on Mira HQ), or lose the game. To fix it, players must enter a 5-digit passcode in two separate locations (O2 and Admin on Skeld, Greenhouse, and Hallway on Mira HQ).
    • Reactor Meltdown (Skeld & Mira HQ)/Reset Seismic Stabilizers (Polus; Radiation symbol): A critical sabotage that forces the crewmates to fix it within the time limit (30 seconds on Skeld, 45 seconds on Mira HQ, 60 seconds on Polus), or lose the game. To fix it, two crewmates must simultaneously place their hands on two separate scanners located in the reactor room (Skeld & Mira HQ), or at the top left and middle of the map (Polus).
    • You cannot sabotage while in vents or while using systems such as the Admin table or Security Cameras.
  6. Kill crewmates. To kill a crewmate, get close to them and tap the KILL button in the lower-right corner of the screen which will light up if they're within range.
How to Play Among Us Step 43.jpeg
    • Depending on the setting, there will be a 10-60 second cooldown period after you kill a crewmate.
    • Your kill cooldown freezes while you're in a vent, looking at the emergency button, using systems such as the Admin table, or resolving sabotages.
    • The kill range also depends on settings and ranges from short too long.
    • Avoid killing in front of crewmates. If you're seen killing, exiting a room with a dead body, or are found next to a body that you didn't report, you'll be called out on it and voted off.
  7. Discuss and vote. Continue trying to appear innocent and attempt to frame crewmates.
How to Play Among Us Step 44.jpeg
    • Always have an alibi ready to defend yourself in the event you get accused. This can come in the form of another player's testimony, or saying you were in a room far away from the body.
    • Don't try to frame crewmates that have already been cleared as you'll only make yourself look suspicious.
    • Don't claim to be in a room you know other players were in as they can call you out on your bluff.
    • If another Impostor (their names will be displayed in red) gets accused, be prepared to vote them off if necessary. Voting for someone else when there's clear evidence against them will only make you look suspicious.
  8. Use the Admin table. This allows you to find lone crewmates to target, optimal sabotaging strategies, and empty rooms that you can claim you were in if asked.
How to Play Among Us Step 45.jpeg
    • Avoid doing critical sabotages if players are nearby to them as it'll generally be repaired much faster, leaving you with a smaller window of opportunity.
  9. Use Door Logs (Mira HQ only). Vent into a room, kill a crewmate, vent back to Comms, then walk to the body and pretend to "discover" it. Frame the person who was last in the vicinity by claiming you saw both of them enter via the logs, but only one of them leave.
How to Play Among Us Step 46.jpeg
    • Don't use the above strategy and then immediately after ejecting someone, sabotage Comms. It will make you look very suspicious.
  10. Use the Vitals panel. This allows you to check how many crewmates are left and to check your key number for the Insert Keys task in case you get asked.
How to Play Among Us Step 47.jpeg
    • Key numbers are assigned in the order that players joined from top to bottom, left column first; players are listed in Vitals from left-to-right according to the order they joined the lobby.
    • Vitals can be seen via the cameras, so sabotage Comms first if you wish to kill someone there.
  11. Be wary of the Security cameras. Cameras allow players to monitor you from far away, essentially creating crewmate safe zones that are extremely risky for impostors.
How to Play Among Us (ImpCameras).jpeg
    • Cameras will blink with a red light if they're in use.
    • If there's a lone player using the camera, lock the doors (Security in Skeld, Electrical on Polus) then perform a vent kill.
    • Killing in front of cameras carries a lesser risk on Polus as only one camera can be viewed at a time. It's still not advised, however.
    • Be wary of cameras that get turned on and off repeatedly (not the normal blinking). It's likely the person on the other side is trying to goad you into revealing yourself.
  12. Continue playing as a ghost. Getting voted out isn't the end of the game as you can still sabotage to help your fellow impostor(s) win if at least one of you is still alive.
How to Play Among Us Step 49.jpeg
  13. Win the game. Impostors win if the crewmates fail to fix a critical sabotage within the time limit or if the number of impostors becomes greater than or equal to the number of crewmates (either by killing them, voting them out, or by alive players leaving).

[Edit]Tips

  • Sabotaging Lights is one of the most versatile sabotages you can do, allowing you to kill in "plain sight". This works especially well on Mira HQ as there are no cameras.
  • As an impostor, try to only to kill when you're alone with your victim.
  • If you're unfamiliar with the level layout, tap the map button at the top right of the screen to pull up a blue map (shows task locations as a crewmate).

[Edit]Warnings

  • Avoid using excessive profanity in chat or in your name. You'll likely get kicked or banned.
  • Be careful when sabotaging the lights on Skeld and Polus. Security cameras will still work just fine allowing you to be seen.
  • Never give away personal information in the chat or your username.
