How to Draw White on White Paper

If you've ever tried to draw a white subject on a white piece of paper, you probably know how tough it can be. Making your subject stand out instead of fading into the background is no easy feat, but it can be done! With a few tips and tricks, you can make your white drawing distinct from its white background in no time.

  1. Start with the lighter tones. This will help you preserve the overall light color of your subject. Go for light grays, light pinks, and light browns as you start in on your drawing.[1]

    • This is especially important for white fur. Using lighter tones first will help it look more realistic.
  2. Add shadows to your drawing with grays and blacks. Shadows help give your project dimension and look more realistic; plus, they'll break up the white color a little bit. Take note of where the light falls on your subject, and make sure to add those in as you draw.[2]

    • The shadows on a white subject are often made up of multiple colors. Neutral gray, beige, tan, and even light pink can work for shadows in or around the subject.
    • Shadows are rarely the same color all over. Even if all you see is gray, try adding in different tones, like light or dark gray, to make them look more realistic.
  3. Add different white colors with off-white and cream. If your subject is looking a little too dark, use an off-white or cream color to balance out the shadows and build up the white color. These colors will stand out against the white page, making details easier to see.[3]

    • Ivory and light tan colors are also great for these areas.

Fortunately, going on this ultra-low-carb diet doesn't mean that you have to give up bread completely! You can make a variety of tasty loaves that are packed with keto-friendly ingredients, like nut flours and butter.[1] If you're in a big hurry, you can even whip up a 90-second single-serve keto bread in your microwave.

    • Eggs separate more easily when they're cold, so separate your eggs first and then set them aside to warm up a little while you prepare your other ingredients.
    • Ideally, your eggs should be about room temperature before you mix them in with the other ingredients.[6]

    • Your egg whites may not mix properly if they're colder than room temperature or you leave any traces of yolk behind.
  8. Fold the egg whites into the flour mixture gradually. Take about 1/3 of the egg whites and gently stir them into the batter. Then, carefully fold in the rest of the egg whites.[13] To fold in the whites, scoop them out onto the top of the batter, then slice through them with a spatula, going deep enough to touch the bottom of the bowl. Scrape the batter up from the bottom of the bowl and fold it over the top. Turn the bowl 90° and repeat the folding action. Do this 1-2 more times until the egg whites are incorporated into the batter.[14]

    • To keep the batter light and fluffy, don't stir the egg in thoroughly. It's okay if your batter appears a little streaky.
  9. Pour the batter into the pan and bake it for 25-30 minutes. Transfer your batter into the prepared pan and stick it in the oven. After about 25 minutes, check on your bread. If it looks golden brown on top, stick a toothpick into the center of the loaf. Your tasty keto loaf is done when the toothpick comes out clean![15]

    • If it's not done yet, put it back for another 5 minutes, then check again. Keep checking at 5-minute intervals until it's just right.
  10. Allow the bread to cool completely before lifting it out of the pan. Once you're satisfied with your bread, set the pan on a rack to cool. After it's cool to the touch, grab the edges of the parchment paper and lift the bread out of the pan. Now it's ready to slice and serve![16]

    • Wrap up any bread you don't use right away in cling wrap or foil.

    • Whisking the ingredients together will help ensure that they're all evenly distributed. If you don't have a whisk, use a spatula.
    • Whey protein powder is safe for most people, but it's best to avoid it if you have a dairy allergy or sensitivity. It can also interfere with certain medications, such as albendazole, alendronate, and some antibiotics.[21]
    • You can get plain, unflavored whey protein powder at stores that sell vitamins and supplements. Buy xanthan gum online or in the baking section of your grocery store.
