How to Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word

Posted: 12 Nov 2020 04:00 PM PST

This wikiHow teaches you how to add clickable links to your Microsoft Word documents. You can make any text or image in your document a hyperlink that, when clicked, brings the reader to another place in the document, an external website, a different file, and even a pre-addressed email message. The links you create will remain active even if you convert the Word document to the PDF format.

[Edit]Steps

[Edit]Linking to Another Document or Website

  1. Select the text or image that you want to turn into a link. You can turn any text or image in your document into a link. Highlight the text or click the image that you want to convert into a hyperlink.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 1 Version 6.jpg
    • To insert an image into your document, click the Insert tab and select "Pictures." You'll be able to browse your computer for an image file to add. You can also insert clipart to use as a link.
  2. Press (Mac) or (PC). This opens the Insert Hyperlink window. You can also get to this menu by clicking the Insert tab and then clicking the Link button in the toolbar.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 2 Version 6.jpg
  3. Select from the left panel. More options will appear in the right panel.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 3 Version 6.jpg
  4. Select a file or enter a web address.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 4 Version 6.jpg
    • To link to a website or a file that's accessible on the web, type or paste the full address (including the "https://" at the beginning) into the "Address" field near the bottom of the window.
    • To link to a file on your computer or local network, select that file in the center panel. If it's in the current folder, click Current folder to open its contents. If you opened it recently, click Recent Files to browse those. You can also use the menus at the top to navigate to the correct folder and select the file.
    • To create a new blank document instead of opening a certain file, click Create a new document in the left menu, then choose a location for the document.
  5. Set a ScreenTip (optional). You can change the text that appears when the user rests the cursor over the link by clicking the ScreenTip button at the top-right corner and specifying your text. If you don't change it, the screen tip will also display the website address or file path.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 5 Version 6.jpg
  6. Click to save your link. You can now test your link by holding down the Command (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) button on the keyboard while clicking it.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 6 Version 6.jpg

[Edit]Linking to a Blank Email Message

  1. Select the text or click the image you want to turn into an email link. You can use any text or image in your document. When you're finished with this method, clicking the selected text or image will bring up a new email message to the address of your choice.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 7 Version 6.jpg
  2. Press (Mac) or (PC). This opens the Insert Hyperlink window. You can also get to this menu by clicking the Insert tab and then clicking the Link button in the toolbar.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 8 Version 6.jpg
  3. Click in the left panel. This allows you to set up the blank message.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 9 Version 6.jpg
  4. Enter the e-mail address and subject. This will be the address that the reader will be sending the email to. What you enter into the "Subject" field will be automatically filled in for the reader, but they will be able to change it if they want.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 10 Version 6.jpg
    • If you use Outlook, you'll see recently-used email addresses in the field at the bottom of the window. Feel free to select one of those.
    • Some mail apps, especially web-based email apps, may not recognize the subject line.
  5. Set a ScreenTip (optional). You can change the text that appears when the user rests the cursor over the link by clicking the ScreenTip button at the top-right corner and specifying your text. If you don't change it, the screen tip will show the email address.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 11 Version 6.jpg
  6. Click to save your link. You can now test your link by holding down the Command (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) button on the keyboard while clicking it. Your default email app will open to a new message containing addressed to the address you entered previously.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 12 Version 6.jpg

[Edit]Linking to a Place in the Same Document

  1. Place your cursor at the location you want to link to. You can use the Bookmark tool to create links to specific spots in your document. This is great for tables of contents, glossaries, and citations. You can highlight a portion of text, select an image, or just place your cursor in the spot you want.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 13 Version 6.jpg
  2. Click the tab. It's in the menu bar at the top of Word.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 14 Version 6.jpg
  3. Click the button. It's in the toolbar at the top of Word in the "Links" section.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 15 Version 6.jpg
  4. Enter a name for the bookmark. Make sure the name is descriptive enough that you'll be able to recognize it. This is especially important if you are using a lot of bookmarks or more than one person is editing the document.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 16 Version 6.jpg
    • Bookmark names have to start with letters but can also contain numbers. You can't use spaces, but you can use underscores instead (e.g. "Chapter_1").
  5. Click to insert the bookmark. Bookmarks will appear on the page surrounded by brackets. You won't see the bookmark on the page if you're using a modern version of Word, but in earlier versions, it may be surrounded by brackets.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 17 Version 6.jpg
    • If you want to see brackets around the bookmark so you don't forget where you placed it, click the File menu, select Options, and click Advanced in the left panel. Then, scroll down the right panel and check the box next to "Show bookmarks" under the "Show document content" header.
  6. Select the text or image you want to create the link from. Highlight the text or click the image that you want to turn into a link to your bookmark.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 18 Version 6.jpg
  7. Press (Mac) or (PC). This opens the Insert Hyperlink window. You can also get to this menu by clicking the Insert tab and then clicking the Link button in the toolbar.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 19 Version 6.jpg
  8. Click in the left panel. This displays a navigation tree with your heading styles and bookmarks.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 20 Version 6.jpg
  9. Select the bookmark you want to link to. Expand the "Bookmarks" tree if it isn't already and select the bookmark you created. You can also select from heading styles you've applied throughout the document.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 21 Version 2.jpg
  10. Set a ScreenTip (optional). To change the text that appears when the user rests the cursor over the link, click the Screen Tip button at the top-right corner. If you don't change the text, the screen tip will display the website address or file path.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 22 Version 2.jpg
  11. Click to save your link. You can now test your link by holding down the Command (Mac) or Ctrl (PC) button on the keyboard while clicking it. This will recenter the view to the line on which you placed the bookmark.
Insert a Hyperlink in Microsoft Word Step 23 Version 2.jpg

How to Use Apple CarPlay

Posted: 12 Nov 2020 08:00 AM PST

To use your Apple CarPlay infotainment system, you'll need to connect your iPhone 5 or newer to your car's display. Once connected, you can control your iPhone from the CarPlay screen on your car console. The easiest way to navigate CarPlay is with Siri, which allows you to keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road. This wikiHow teaches you how to get started with Apple CarPlay.

[Edit]Steps

[Edit]Getting Hooked Up

  1. Understand the limitations of CarPlay. You can think of CarPlay as a second screen for certain features of your iPhone. Your iPhone will still do all of the work, which means that CarPlay will use your iPhone's GPS for maps instead of the car's built-in GPS. CarPlay also does not connect with any of your car's settings, such as the interior lights. CarPlay is instead designed to give you easy and hands-free access to iPhone functions you'll use most while driving, such as Maps, Music, Phone, Podcasts, etc.[1]
Use Apple CarPlay Step 1 Version 2.jpg
    • You must have an iPhone 5 or later to use CarPlay.
  2. Ensure your car receiver is compatible. CarPlay requires a compatible car infotainment system. Currently, CarPlay is supported in over 500 car models.[2] if your car does not have a CarPlay-compatible infotainment system, you can have a third-party receiver installed at most car stereo stores.[3]
Use Apple CarPlay Step 2 Version 2.jpg
    • See Install a Car Stereo if you want to try installing a CarPlay receiver yourself, but professional installation is recommended.
  3. Connect the iPhone to your receiver. You'll usually connect your iPhone to the receiver using a Lightning cable, but some receivers also support wireless connections via Bluetooth.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 3 Version 2.jpg
    • To connect with a Lightning cable, plug one end into your iPhone, and the other end into the USB port that's labeled with either a mobile phone or CarPlay icon.
    • If your car receiver supports Bluetooth, put your car receiver into pairing mode (check your owner's manual for more information). On the iPhone, open the Settings app, tap General, and then CarPlay. Tap Available Models and then select your model to confirm.
  4. Start the CarPlay program on your receiver. The process will vary depending on your car's infotainment system. Generally, there will be a CarPlay button on the main menu, or it may have a physical button. Sometimes CarPlay will start automatically when the iPhone is connected.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 4 Version 2.jpg
    • As of iOS 13, the iPhone screen no longer locks when connected to CarPlay. This means a passenger can now use your iPhone while it is connected to CarPlay.
  5. Tap on your car receiver. When you connect your iPhone, it displays a prompt informing you that certain Sync features will be replaced by iPhone features.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 5 Version 2.jpg
  6. Review the terms and tap . You must agree to the terms in the agreement to use Carplay.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 6 Version 2.jpg
  7. Turn 911 Assist on (Optional) and tap . 911 Assist is a free service that will contact 911 if you are in an accident, even if you are unable to make a phone call. Tap the toggle switch next to "911 Assist" to turn this feature on.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 7 Version 2.jpg
  8. Tap on your iPhone. This allows your car receiver to access your iPhone features. You can then swipe up on the screen to access your iPhone home screen.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 8 Version 2.jpg

[Edit]Navigating CarPlay

  1. Use your car's touch screen to navigate the system. Starting with iOS 13, CarPlay home screen displays a widget screen. The widgets are as follows:
Use Apple CarPlay Step 9 Version 2.jpg
    • In the center of the screen, there is an Apple Maps map.
    • In the upper-right corner, there are some quick locations (i.e. home and work) that you can tap to select.
    • In the center-right, you have music and the options to play, go back, or skip to the next song.
    • If Suggestions are turned on (see Changing the CarPlay Settings), they'll appear in the lower-right corner.
    • In the sidebar, to the left, you have a few frequently used apps, such as Apple Music, and the Phone app.
  2. Swipe left or tap the icon with 8 squares to display your apps. There may be more than one page full of apps, so keep swiping left to see more pages.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 10 Version 2.jpg
  3. Tap the icon with a large square and three rectangles to return to the widgets screen. This icon is in the lower-left corner of your apps screen.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 11 Version 2.jpg
  4. Use built-in knobs and other physical controls. If your infotainment system uses knobs or other physical control methods, these will work with CarPlay as well. Twist the knob to cycle through the CarPlay options and press the button to select it.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 12 Version 2.jpg
  5. Use Siri to control CarPlay hands-free. Siri is arguably the most effective way to control CarPlay since you don't need to look at the screen while you're driving. You can activate Siri by pressing and holding the Voice button on your steering wheel. If you don't have a Voice button on your steering wheel, you can press and hold the simulated Home button on the CarPlay screen.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 13 Version 2.jpg
    • With Siri, you can perform virtually any command that CarPlay supports. For example, you could start Siri and say "Call Bob" and Siri will place the call for you. The call will then play through the car speakers. See each of the sections below for details on using Siri with various CarPlay features.
    • With iOS 13, many vehicles now allow you to activate Siri by saying "Hey Siri".
    • You can now use Siri to control many more apps, including Google Maps, Waze, Audible, Podcasts, and more.
    • Siri will also give suggestions associated with your events in the calendar. If your events have an address or phone number associated with them, you can use Siri to get directions with CarPlay.
  6. Tap the icon with your car's logo to return to your car's system. You can still return to CarPlay at any time by tapping its icon.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 14 Version 2.jpg

[Edit]Making Calls

  1. Launch Siri. Press and hold the Voice button on your steering wheel or the Home button on the CarPlay screen to launch Siri. With the new iOS14 upgrade, Siri can now send voice messages
Use Apple CarPlay Step 15 Version 2.jpg
    • You can also make a call by tapping the Phone button on the CarPlay display, but this is not recommended while driving.
  2. Say "Call Name" or "Call Phone Number" and wait for Siri to dial. If there are multiple people with that name in your contacts, you'll be prompted to clarify who you want to call.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 16 Version 2.jpg
  3. Complete your call using your car stereo. The call will play through your car stereo speakers.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 17 Version 2.jpg
  4. Press the Hang Up button on your steering wheel or CarPlay screen to end the call. This will hang up and return CarPlay to whatever you were doing before the call.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 18 Version 2.jpg

[Edit]Sending a Voice Message

  1. Launch Siri. Press and hold the Voice button on your steering wheel or the Home button on the CarPlay screen to launch Siri. With the latest upgrade to iOS 14, Siri can now send voice messages and share your estimated time of arrival (ETA).
Use Apple CarPlay Step 15 Version 2.jpg
    • You can also make a call by tapping the Phone button on the CarPlay display, but this is not recommended while driving.
  2. Say "Send a voice message to "name"". Siri will reply "Okay, recording...". This indicates that Siri is recording your voice message.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 20 Version 4.jpg
  3. Record your voice message. Simply speak to record your message. When you are done, Siri will ask if you want to send the message.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 21 Version 3.jpg
  4. Tap or say "Send.". The Send button has an arrow pointing up on the CarPlay screen. You can either tap Send or say "Send" to send your message.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 22 Version 3.jpg

[Edit]Getting Directions

  1. Start Siri. Siri can find locations for you and provide you with driving instructions automatically, all with just a couple of commands. You won't need to take your eyes off the road.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 19 Version 3.jpg
    • Start Siri by pressing and holding the Voice button on your steering wheel, or by pressing and holding the Home button on the CarPlay screen.
    • You can tap the Maps app on your screen and use that instead, but this is not recommended while you're driving.
    • If you have a calendar event with an associated address, you can open the Calendar app on the CarPlay screen and tap the event to get directions.
  2. Say "Give me directions to Location." You can say a street address, city, or landmark. After asking for directions to a location, Siri will automatically launch Maps and begin turn-by-turn navigation to your location.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 20 Version 2.jpg
    • Apple has added Siri support to third-party navigation apps such as Waze and Google Maps in iOS 13. If you would rather use Google Maps instead of Apple Maps, you can say "Hey Siri, Give me directions to [location] using Google Maps".
  3. Use Siri to find something nearby. This allows you to find nearby locations like gas stations or restaurants.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 21 Version 2.jpg
    • Start Siri and say "Find a nearby gas station." Siri will display several close gas stations on the CarPlay screen.
    • Tap the gas station that you want to navigate to. Your directions will change and you'll be taken to the location you specified.
    • With the latest iOS 14 update, Apple Maps can now show you red lights, traffic congestion and help you navigate around it. If you have an electric vehicle, Apple Maps can show you charging stations that are compatible with your vehicle along your route.

[Edit]Playing Music

  1. Ensure you have music or a streaming service on your iPhone. Since CarPlay is just a display for your iPhone, you'll need to either have the music you want to listen to on your iPhone or be an Apple Music subscriber with a streaming music plan. You can also use certain music streaming services such as Spotify or Pandora if you have the app installed on your iPhone. Streaming music will count against your mobile data.
Use Apple CarPlay Step 22 Version 2.jpg
    • When playing music in Apple Music, your iPhone will play the downloaded track if you have it on your iPhone, or stream it if it is not downloaded.
    • Siri works well with Apple Music, but can be hit or miss with other music apps like Spotify and Pandora. Try different commands to see what works.[4]
    • Tap the animated "Now Playing" icon in the upper-right corner of Apple Music to see what's playing now.
  2. Launch Siri. You can use Siri to take complete control of your music, keeping your hands and eyes free for driving. You can start Siri by pressing and holding the Voice button on your steering wheel, or by pressing and holding the Home button on the CarPlay display.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 23.jpg
  3. Tell Siri to play music. Siri recognizes a whole bunch of different commands related to music, so you can pretty much ask to play anything.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 24.jpg
    • For example, you could say "Play songs by Artist," and Siri will start a playlist of songs by that artist. You could say "Play the newest album from Artist," and Siri will start playing that album.
    • If you have playlists, you can tell Siri to play the playlist by saying its name.
  4. Use Siri to control playback. Once songs are playing, you can use Siri commands to adjust playback.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 25.jpg
    • For example, you can say "Turn shuffle on" to shuffle your current playlist. You can say "Pause" or "Stop" to stop music from playing, and "Play" to resume.
    • You can also pause, play, go back, or skip to the next song by tapping the icons in the Apple Music widget on the CarPlay screen.

[Edit]Changing CarPlay Settings

  1. Tap the Settings app . It's in the Apps screen in the CarPlay menu.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 26.jpg
  2. Tap to control those settings. This displays a menu that allows you to control your Do Not Disturb settings.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 27.jpg
    • Toggle the "Do Not Disturb While Driving" switch to turn the feature on or off.
    • Tap the to option below "Do Not Disturb While Driving" to set your auto-reply options while in Do Not Disturb mode.
  3. Tap the back button. It's the blue button with an arrow pointing left in the upper-left corner of the CarPlay display.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 28.jpg
  4. Tap . This displays a menu that allows you to activate light or dark mode.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 29.jpg
    • Tap Automatic to set the display to Light Mode when it is bright out. At night, it will switch to dark mode.
    • Tap Always Dark to keep the display in dark mode.
  5. Tap . One of the new features that came with the iOS 14 update is the addition of wallpapers to Carplay. To select a wallpaper, tap Wallpapers in the Settings menu and then tap one of the 5 wallpapers you would like to use. Each wallpaper has a light and dark mode.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 34.jpg
  6. Tap the toggle switch next to "Suggestions in Dashboard." If activated, there will be a widget that displays Siri suggestions in the Widgets screen.
    Use Apple CarPlay Step 30.jpg

[Edit]Tips

  • Another exiting new feature for iOS 14 is the digital car keys. This allows you to add a digital car key using Apple Wallet. You can then use your iPhone or Apple Watch to unlock and start your car. You can even "text" you keys to other people to allow them access to your car.[5] This feature is currently supported in the latest BMW models.[6]

How to Replace a Door Handle

Posted: 12 Nov 2020 12:00 AM PST

Replacing a door handle or door knob just requires a new door handle set and a flat-head screwdriver. Whether you want to fix a worn-out door knob or upgrade the appearance of a door with a new handle, replacing the existing handle is something that is usually hassle-free. Pick up a new door handle set that you like from a hardware store or home improvement center and get your screwdriver ready to go—soon enough, your door will have a whole new look and feel!

[Edit]Steps

[Edit]Removing the Existing Handle

  1. Open the door and stick a door stop under the bottom edge of the door. Open up the door about halfway, so you can easily access both sides of the door handle. Push a door stop under the bottom edge of the door to keep it from moving and closing while you replace the handle.[1]

Replace a Door Handle Step 1.jpg
    • If you don't have a door stop, you could use a wedge-shaped piece of wood or any other wedge-like object you can find around your home that will fit under the door.
  2. Push the handle's pressure release in with a screwdriver and pull it off. Look for a small slot in the side of the door knob or door handle where it connects to the cover plate or look on the side of the cover plate where it sits flush against the door. Insert the tip of a flat-head screwdriver into the slot and apply pressure with the tip of the screwdriver, then pull the handle or door knob off.[2]

    • The cover plates are the round or rectangular plates that sit against the door between the handle or door knob and the door itself. These parts are there to hide the inner workings of the door handle and give it an attractive appearance.
    • Try unscrewing the knobs or handles if you don't see this type of pressure slot. Different handles come off in different ways.
    • Some types of handles might not come off separately. If yours don't seem like you can pull or screw them off, skip this step. For instance, if your handle has a rectangular plate, the handle might be attached to the plate and will just come off when you remove the whole plate.
  3. Unscrew and pull off the door handle's cover plates. Remove any screws that are holding the cover plates in place on either side of the door using a flat-head screwdriver. Insert the edge of your screwdriver under the plates and pry them up gently until they pop off, then remove them and set them aside.[3]

    • Not all cover plates have screws holding them in place. Some might just snap into place, so you can just pry them right off using your screwdriver. Look for a slot on the side or bottom of the cover plate that you can slide your screwdriver into to pry it off.
    • Some round types of cover plates might screw on, so try turning the cover plate itself counterclockwise if you can't remove it by unscrewing it or prying it off.
  4. Take out the screws holding the latch and inner plates in place. Unscrew and remove the screws holding the latch in place on the inside edge of the door. Take out the screws that hold the inner plates in place on either side of the door.[4]

    • The inner plates are what sit directly under the cover plates you just removed. These hold the door handle's latching mechanism in place inside the hole in the door.
    • The latch is the angled metal piece that moves in and out of the hole on the inside edge of the door. When you close the door, this latch hooks into a hole in the door frame to keep the door closed. Turning the door handle moves this latch in, so you can open the door.
  5. Pull out the latch plate and door latch mechanism. Carefully pull the latch plate and mechanism out from the hole on the inside edge of the door and set it aside. Remove the plates from either side of the door and set them aside as well.[5]

    • You should now just have holes in your door, into which you can install a new door handle.

[Edit]Attaching the New Handle

  1. Choose a new door handle that fits on your door. Use a tape measure to measure from the inside edge of the door to the center of the hole in the door to get the backset measurement, then choose a handle that fits this backset. Pick a new handle or knob with cover plates that are the same shape and size as the old ones to cover up any marks in the surface of your door that the old plates made, such as screw holes and scratches.[6]

    • Most door handles have a standard backset of 60 mm or 70 mm, so you shouldn't have any trouble finding a new door handle that fits in the existing holes in your door.
    • For example, if your old door handle had rectangular cover plates, it's probably best to stick to a new handle with similar rectangular cover plates, rather than switching to one with round plates.
  2. Insert your new handle's latch into the hole on the door's inside edge. Position the latch in the hole on the inside edge of the door so that the smooth angled part faces in the same direction as the door closes in. Slide the latch mechanism into the hole until the latch plate rests flush against the inside edge of the door in the old latch recess.[7]

    • Door handle latches come in a standard size, so the new latch should fit into the old recess without any problems. If it doesn't seem to fit for some reason, you can use a chisel to make adjustments to the depth and shape of the recess in the door.
  3. Screw the new handle's inner plates to the door. Line up the cylinders on the insides of the inner plates with the corresponding holes in the latch mechanism and slide them into place. Fasten the plates flush against the door using the provided screws and your screwdriver.[8]

    • If the inner plates are different from each other, make sure to look at the instructions on your new handle to see which one goes on the inside and which one goes on the outside of the door.
  4. Put the cover plates in place on top of the inner plates. Slide the new cover plates on and press them against the inner plates until they snap into place. Attach any provided screws that hold the plates in place using your screwdriver.[9]

    • These plates should be the same for both sides, since they are just the cosmetic plates that cover up the inner plates.
  5. Press the new knobs or handles into place. Slide the outer knob or handle onto the handle mechanism's cylinder on the outside of the door and press it until it snaps into place. Do the same for the inner knob or handle.[10]

    • Remember that some knobs and handles screw on. If you see threads on the door handle mechanism cylinders, screw the knobs or handles on instead of pressing them into place.
    • If your new door handles are already attached to the cover plates, you don't have to put them on separately. They will already be in place after you attach the new cover plates to the door.
  6. Replace any other locks and deadbolts on the door if you want them to match. Choose new locks and deadbolts that match your door handle to update the appearance of all the hardware on the door. Unscrew and remove the old locks and deadbolts, then slide the new ones into place on the door and attach them with the provided screws to finish upgrading the door's hardware.[11]
Replace a Door Handle Step 11.jpg
    • This is totally optional and would only matter if the new handle looks way different from the other hardware on the door.
    • For example, if you have a silver deadbolt lock on your front door and you just replaced the old handle with a new silver handle, the difference might not be that noticeable. However, if your new handle is gold, you might want to update the locks.

[Edit]Tips

  • The general process for replacing any door knob or door handle is usually the same. However, always refer to the manufacturer's instructions before you install the new handle for any specific instructions.

[Edit]Warnings

  • Modern door handles are all pretty much a standard size. However, if you're replacing an old handle, the housing holes in your door might be different sizes. If this is the case, it might be a good idea to remove your old handle first and measure the housing holes before you buy a new door handle.

[Edit]Things You'll Need

  • Door handle set
  • Flat-head screwdriver
  • Tape measure
