How to Make Doggie Biscuits

Posted: 11 May 2019 05:00 PM PDT

Making homemade dog biscuits is a wonderful way to show your pooch how much you care! Homemade dog biscuits are great because you can adjust the recipe for any allergies or intolerances. It's also good to always have healthy, inexpensive snacks on hand. Start by making the dough and then knead it into a ball. Cut the dough into your preferred shapes and then bake the biscuits for 30 minutes. Always let the biscuits cool completely before giving them to your dog.

EditIngredients

  • 1 tsp (2.6 g) of beef or chicken bouillon granules
  • of hot water
  • 2 ½ cups (225 g) of oats
  • 1 tsp (5 g) of salt
  • 1 egg

Makes approximately 18 dog biscuits

EditSteps

EditPreheating the Oven and Making the Dough

  1. Set the oven temperature to . Preheat the oven before you start making the dog biscuits so that they can be cooked as soon as the dough is ready. Adjust the temperature to and change the setting to bake. Look for the small light that indicates when the oven has finished preheating.[1]
    Make Doggie Biscuits Step 1.jpg
    • Some ovens don't have a light that indicates when the preheating process is complete. If this is the case, let the oven preheat for approximately 15 minutes before you cook the biscuits.
  2. Dissolve the bouillon granules in hot water. Get a measuring jug and add of hot water. Then place 1 tsp (2.6 g) of beef of chicken bouillon granules into the hot water. Use a fork to stir the mixture thoroughly, until there are no lumps of powder.[2]

    • Alternatively, you can use beef or chicken stock or broth rather than bouillon granules.
  3. Stir all of the ingredients together. Get a large mixing bowl and place the dissolved beef or chicken bouillon granules, 2 ½ cups (225 g) of oats, 1 tsp (5 g) of salt, and 1 egg into the bowl. Use a fork or a whisk to mix all of the ingredients thoroughly, until the mixture forms a smooth dough.[3]

EditShaping the Dough

  1. Knead the dough into a ball for approximately 3 minutes. Remove the dough from the large mixing bowl and place it onto your work surface. Punch the dough down with the heels of your hands to spread it across the surface and then work it back into a ball shape. Continue this processes for approximately 3 minutes, until the dough can easily hold the ball shape.[4]

    • Before you begin kneading, wipe down your work surface to make sure that it's clean and then lightly sprinkle flour over it to prevent the dough from sticking.
  2. Roll the dough out so that it's thick. Keep the ball of dough on your work surface and get a rolling pin. Run the rolling pin over the dough to stretch it out. Work the dough out from the centre until it has reached an even thickness of around .[5]

    • The shape you roll out the dough into doesn't matter, as you'll be cutting it into smaller pieces anyway.
  3. Cut the dough into rectangles. It's time to divide the dough into individual biscuits! Get a knife and carefully divide the dough into smaller pieces. You can choose a different size or shape for the biscuits if you prefer.[6]

    • Alternatively, you can use cookie cutters to shape the dog biscuits more creatively. Dog or bone-shaped cookie cutters are ideal!

EditBaking and Storing the Biscuits

  1. Arrange the dog biscuits on a cookie sheet. Pick up each piece of dough and place it onto the cookie sheet. Try to leave approximately between each biscuit so that they have room to expand as they cook. Don't try to squeeze all of the biscuits on 1 tray if they won't fit. Simply use a second tray or cook the biscuits in batches if this is the case.[7]

    • If you're concerned that the biscuits may stick to the cookie sheet, place a piece of parchment paper or a silicone non-stick baking mat down first.[8]
  2. Bake the dog biscuits for 30 minutes. Place the cookie sheet into the oven and set the timer for 30 minutes. Keep an eye on the dog biscuits throughout the cooking process and remove the cookie sheet from the oven when the biscuits look lightly browned.[9]
    Make Doggie Biscuits Step 8.jpg
    • Once you have removed the biscuits from the oven, use a fork to check that they feel solid rather than soft. If they feel soft, place them back into the oven for another 2-3 minutes before checking them again.
  3. Let the dog biscuits cool on a wire rack. It's important that the dog biscuits are completely cool before you give them to your dog! Use a fork or a spatula to carefully lift each biscuit from the cookie sheet and to transfer it to a wire rack. Keep the dog biscuits on the wire rack until they are completely cool to touch.[10]

    • Avoid giving your dog the biscuits before they have cooled completely, as otherwise, your dog may burn its mouth.
  4. Store the dog biscuits in the refrigerator for up to 2 months. Place all of the dog biscuits that you aren't using immediately into an airtight plastic or glass container, making sure that the lid is secure. Keep the airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 2 months and discard any remaining biscuits after this time.[11]

    • Keeping the dog biscuits in the refrigerator means that they won't spoil as quickly.

EditThings You'll Need

  • Fork or whisk
  • Large mixing bowl
  • Rolling pin
  • Knife or cookie cutters
  • Cookie sheet
  • Parchment paper or silicone non-stick baking mat

How to Get Flowers for Your Mom for Mother's Day

Posted: 11 May 2019 01:00 AM PDT

Show your mother how much you love and appreciate her by getting her flowers on Mother's Day. Start by choosing what kind of flowers and which colors you'd like to include. Then, order your flowers either in person or online. You can visit a floral shop or an online retailer in order to pick a beautiful springtime bouquet!

EditSteps

EditChoosing the Types of Flowers

  1. Decide on a color scheme for your bouquet and accessories. Popular Mother's Day colors include pink, purple, red, orange, and yellow. You want your color scheme to be cheerful and reflect springtime. Add some white or green flowers to your arrangement for extra color.

    • Consider your color scheme when selecting both flowers and vases.[1]
  2. Choose a bouquet of Mom's favorite flowers. If you aren't positive of her favorites, select flowers in her favorite colors. Deciding on your flowers based on Mom's favorites will ensure you choose a special, thoughtful bouquet.[2]

    • When in doubt, pick a mixed collection of spring flowers.
  3. Include popular Mother's Day flowers, like tulips and lilies. Other popular flower choices include chrysanthemums, roses, orchids, or sunflowers. [3]

    • When in doubt, pick a mixed collection of spring flowers.
  4. Purchase a bouquet already arranged if you aren't arranging your own. Whether you are getting your mom flowers in person or online, there are many pre-arranged bouquets to choose from. This is helpful if you are in a time crunch or are uncertain of how to make your own arrangements.

  5. Arrange a bouquet yourself for a heartfelt touch. You can select a single, pretty flower, or gather a few different flower types and arrange them into a bouquet yourself. Arranging your flowers yourself will create a thoughtful gift for your mother.

EditGetting the Logistics Right

  1. Decide on the size of your bouquet. You can choose the size of your bouquet based on what you think your mom will love best. Options include a single flower, small arrangement, or large bouquet.

    • Do you want one flower as a focal piece with smaller accents? Or a few smaller statement flowers? Would Mom love a single flower, like a rose?
  2. Set a budget for your bouquet. Flower arrangements can get expensive quick, depending on the size of bouquet and types of flowers selected. Set a price range for your bouquet, whether it be $15 or $50.

    • Remember to include other gifts, like greeting cards, gift cards, or chocolates, when you are setting your price.
  3. Select a bouquet that fits your color scheme and flower preferences. Look for flowers and bouquets that are fresh and in good condition, and be sure they meet your color and type requirements.

    • Flowers in good condition will be brightly colored without much browning or creasing on the petals. If the flowers appear dull and if they are missing petals, they are towards the end of their life.[4]
  4. Ask a florist for help if you are stuck. If you are buying flowers in person and you are lacking inspiration, ask the florist or floral department clerk for assistance. They can generally bundle together a beautiful bouquet and offer ideas on colors, flower types, and arrangement. [5]
