How to Use Stickies on Mac Posted: 01 Mar 2021 04:00 PM PST This wikiHow teaches you how to create and manage virtual sticky notes on your Mac. Just like the sticky-backed Post It notes you can attach to your desk or monitor, the Stickies app can help you remember bits of information like phone numbers, appointments, and URLs. [Edit]Creating a Sticky Note - Open Finder . It's the two-toned smiley face icon on the Dock.
- Click the folder. It's in the left panel.
- Double-click . It's in the right panel. This opens the Stickies app.
- Drag Stickies to your Dock (optional). If you think you'll be using the Stickies app a lot, it'll be helpful to add its icon to your Dock. When the icon is on your Dock, you can quickly open Stickies by clicking it rather than accessing it through Finder.
- This should create a new note automatically. If you don't see a new note, or you just want to create another note, read on.
- Click the menu. It's at the top-left corner of the screen.
- Click on the menu. This creates a blank sticky note.
- You can also create a new sticky note by pressing Cmd + N on the keyboard.
- You can have multiple stickies open at once.
- To move a sticky, click and drag it from the horizontal bar at the top of the note.
[Edit]Customizing Sticky Notes - Change the color of the note. You can make your sticky note yellow, blue, green, gray, pink, or purple. Here's how:
- Click an existing note or create a new one.
- Click the Color menu at the top of the screen.
- Select a color for your note.
- If you want to make the note more see-through, click the Window menu at the top of the screen and select Translucent.
- Use a different font in your sticky note. You can change the font used on your sticky note to any of the regular Mac fonts. You can also make text bold, italic, change its size, and more. Here's how:
- To change text you've already typed into a sticky note, highlight it first.
- Click the Font menu at the top of the screen.
- To select a different font, click Show Fonts and make your selection.
- Click Bigger to make text bigger, and Smaller to make text smaller.
- Use the Kerning menu to determine how close together the letters are.
- Use the Ligatures menu to determine whether to display special combined characters in fonts that support this feature.
- The Baseline menu contains options for using Subscript or Superscript.[1]
- Make a sticky note float on top of other windows. If you want a certain sticky note to stay visible on the screen when you're using other apps (including those that are full-screen), you can make the sticky "float":
- Click an existing note or create a new one.
- Click the Window menu at the top of the screen.
- Click Floating Window.
- Collapse a note. You can use the Collapse feature to "roll up" your sticky note when you don't need it to be visible:
- Click the sticky note you want to collapse.
- Double-click the horizontal bar that runs along the top of the window to collapse it.[2] Only the bar will be visible.
- Double-click the bar again to expand the sticky note.
- You can also press Cmd + M to quickly collapse and reactivate notes.
- Create a list in your sticky note. You can create a bulleted list in a sticky note:
- Click the place in your note where you'd like the list to begin.
- Press the Option + Tab keys at the same time.
- Type the first item in your list and press Return.
- Continue typing list items.
- To add another level to your list, click the beginning of a line and press the Tab key. To go up a level, press Shift + Tab.
- When you're finished with your list, press Return twice to end it.
- Delete a sticky note. If you don't need a note anymore, you can delete it:
- Click the note you want to delete.
- Click the box at the top-left corner of the note.
- Click Delete note.
- You can add images and other files to your sticky notes. Just drag a file from Finder into the note to add it.
- Hover the mouse cursor over a note to see information such as its creation date and the time it was last edited.

How to Use Nespresso Posted: 01 Mar 2021 08:00 AM PST Nespresso machines offer a convenient and quick way to get a morning cup of coffee. Once you have your coffee maker, you will need to purchase and insert the small capsules of ground coffee beans that Nespresso machines use to make a steaming hot espresso shot or full mug of coffee. Using these devices can simplify your life and reduce your annual coffee budget significantly, but only if you know the right way to use them. You'll soon have no problem filling the water tank, inserting the capsules, and leaving the rest to the machine! [Edit]Making Coffee with Nespresso - Fill the water tank at least halfway. While you only need as much water as the capsule will use, having more water in the tank lessens the risk of scorching the ground coffee. You should use drinkable, clean water from a tap, filter, or bottle. Using quality water gives your coffee a good base.[1]
- Turn the Nespresso machine on. Depending on the model, there will be a button somewhere on the front or top of the machine to allow you to turn it on. Give the Nespresso time to preheat itself by waiting a few seconds for the flashing light to turn solid, e.g. 25 seconds for the Pixie.[2]
- On the Pixie, the power button is located on the back end of the top component, whereas the Essenza has a button on the face of the machine.
- If you are having trouble finding the button, consult the manual your device came with. It will have a diagram locating all of the major features and buttons.
- Place a cup of the proper size below the coffee outlet. Different machines have different recommended sizes, and there are settings and buttons to change the cup size from espresso shot glass to a full mug. Decide which size you want to make and set the cup on the platform.[3]
- Recommended sizes for your model will be listed in the Nespresso manual.
- For large cups and small machines, you may have to lift or detach the platform for the cup to fit.
- Open the capsule container. Some machines have levers, and others have a detachable or unlockable head, so be sure to find the right spot. Consult the manual if you have trouble locating the place where the pod in inserted. The Pixie has a simple lever that lifts to reveal the pod slot.[4]
- Place your Nespresso pod in the machine and secure the lid. Each machine differs on the direction your pod should face, but it is most likely that you should lay the capsule on its side or vertically with the logo facing upward. Close the lid or lower the lever, securing the pod in place and locking the lid if necessary.[5]
- Most Nespresso machines use a sharp needle-like piercer to puncture the capsule so keep your fingers safe by closing the lid after removing your hand.
- Press the button, selecting the correct size if given the option. Many Nespresso machines have just one button, but if yours has several, choose the one that corresponds to the size cup you wish to make. Once you have pressed the button, your coffee will begin to flow as soon as the water is hot enough. The coffee button is often located in the same site as the power button, e.g. on the back of the top surface.[6]
- Some machines automatically stop the flow of coffee when the intended volume has been reached, while others require you to count seconds or flashes before pressing the button again to stop it.
- If it takes time for the coffee to emerge, it may be because you placed the capsule in the machine before it finished preheating.
- Eject the used capsule by lifting the lever. While your model may have a specific way to eject the pod, most Nespresso machines require the lever to be lifted, pressed down, or rotated in order to empty the capsule into the used container.[7]
- If the pod does not seem to drop down, try emptying the used capsule container to give it more room.
- Add milk, cream, or sugar to your coffee, if desired. Just like a normal coffee maker, a Nespresso provides you with a coffee base that you can either drink black with nothing added, or make a mocha, latte, cappuccino, or any other coffee drink you can imagine.[8]
- You can make steamed milk at home using a steam wand or by simply heating and frothing the milk.
- Re-order pods before you run out. Once you have become used to the convenience of quickly making your own coffee each morning, it can feel like a huge hassle to stop by a coffee shop on your way to work. To avoid this, order new coffee pods before the ones in your home are all gone, so that you can have a seamless stream of coffee.
- Shopping for pods online allows you to save a specific cart of your favorite flavors in just the right quantities so that you can simply press the "purchase" button to order.
- Pods typically come in bulk packs in counts of 10 up to 100 and counts of 50 from 100 to 300.
[Edit]Descaling the Machine - Descale your Nespresso machine at least twice a year. You should descale your machine a few times a year, leaving at most 6 months between descalings. This process will extend the Nespresso's longevity and ensure that your coffee tastes its best. You will be removing lime build-up and other gunk from the inside of the machine.
- Purchase a descaling kit or citric acid tablets. The easiest way to do descale your machine is by purchasing an official descaling kit from Nespresso and letting it do the work for you. Dissolving citric acid in water will also work.[9]
- The official solution contains lactic acid and some phosphates, which are powerful cleaners that target lime and scum-covered metals. They can be hazardous to your skin, so you have to be careful when using them. You should consult the descaling kit guide for further health and safety tips.[10]
- Empty the device of capsules. If there are any used or unused pods in the machine, it will affect the ability of the descaler to strip the machine. Remove them from the capsule holder and the used capsule container before proceeding.[11]
- Fill the water tank with water and descaling solution. Use the amount listed in your manual, as each machine requires different quantities of water to run through the entire machine. If you are using a homemade solution, be careful not to use too much or too little solution.[12]
- Place a or larger container below the spout. The descaling process requires a great deal of water, so it is important that you set a container under the coffee spout that can safely hold all of the water, descaling solution, and build-up without overflowing.[13]
- Press the required buttons on your Nespresso. Each model's descaling process is started using a different combination of buttons. Check your manual to determine which ones you should press and for how long to begin descaling.[14]
- On the Pixie, for example, you have to press both coffee buttons at the same time to enter descaling mode.
- Let the descaling process continue for 10 minutes. The process takes some time, as the device will be removing a great deal of gunk and lime scum from the channel that produces your coffee. Don't interrupt the process or remove the container unless it is overflowing.[15]
- Repeat any necessary steps. Some machines, like the Pixie and Essenza, require you to place the used water back into the tank to repeat the process in order to ensure that the machine has been fully descaled. Doing this twice lets the solution soften the scum and lime, and then strip it on the second time.[16]
- Fill the tank with drinking water to run a cycle with no solution. This prepares the Nespresso for making coffee again by removing any leftover descaling solution. Afterward, rinse the water tank thoroughly before making another cup of coffee with the machine.[17]
- Exit descaling mode by pressing the same set of buttons. Simply reverse what you did to enter descaling mode before, and let the machine dry for another 10 minutes before making a fresh cup of coffee.[18]
- Wipe down the machine with a damp cloth. The outside of your Nespresso also needs care. It is a good idea to wipe it down at the same time that you descale so that you can keep the machine clean and dust-free.[19]

How to Lose Weight During Quarantine Posted: 01 Mar 2021 12:00 AM PST During pandemics and outbreaks in the world, such as COVID-19, you may be forced to stay home and quarantine yourself. Maybe you're sitting at home, watching TV, and wondering when you can go to the gym to lose some weight? Well, here are some steps you can follow to get in shape at home! Try your best to follow these steps, and you will become fit as a fiddle! [Edit]Eating Right - Cut back on sugar. During the lockdown, your body might be craving for something sweet and sugary all the time. But, did you know that eating one teaspoon of sugar can lower 40% of your immunity for three hours?[1] This does not mean that you completely cut down on sugar, but rather that you eat it in moderation.
- While your body does need sugar for energy, too much of it can cause you to gain unnecessary weight.
- Also remember, not eating sugar for a few days can impact you . Someday, your body will not be able to take eating only healthy foods anymore and will make you want to eat sugar and unhealthy food in huge proportions, making you gain weight fast.
- Cut back on desserts and unhealthy snacks. Chips, cookies, ice cream, candy, and other foods are supposed to be an occasional treat, not a staple of your diet. These "junk foods" (as they are called) fill you up without providing the nutrients you and your body needs.
- Look for healthy snacking alternatives, like carrot sticks, popcorn, apple slices with peanut butter, and tasty whole grain cereals.
- You don't have to cut treats out of your diet entirely, since feeling deprived may weaken your resolve. Stick to one small dessert per day and enjoy it thoroughly.
- Start thinking about where your calories come from.[2] While counting calories can increase stress and isn't an ideal diet strategy,[3] you can start paying attention to where you get most of your calories.
- Are most of your calories coming from healthy sources (like fruits, vegetables, and whole grains) or not-so-healthy sources (like simple carbs, red meats, and desserts)?
- While you don't need to count calories exactly, you may decide to count approximates.
- Try your best to control your food portions. This can be hard, especially when you're at home with virtually nothing to do. However, it's best that you measure out your food, and/or use smaller plates and bowls.[4]
- Instead of eating chips, pretzels, or other snacks straight from the bag, decide how much you're going to eat and pour it into a bowl. When you don't take the time to actually realize how much food you're eating, you might end up eating too much food - and gain weight. If you're still hungry after you finish, eat a fruit or vegetable.
- If you're bored instead of hungry, try some interesting chewing gum.
- Try to get fruits and vegetables with every meal. The sugar in the fruits are natural glucose, which is much healthier than artificial sugar.
- Vegetables have their own proteins, vitamins and minerals which will keep you away from deficiency diseases. They also help fill your stomach quickly so that you won't feel hungry for a long time.
- Pair a salad with a little bit of fat (such as a few nuts or a slice of toast with peanut butter) to improve nutrient absorption.[5][6]
- Eat whole grains. Eating whole wheat bread, pasta, brown rice, and foods like oatmeal are very nutritious and are good sources of energy too! Pairing them up with vegetables will be the best option for you, and will be a very healthy diet.
- Develop a routine. Set a specific time to eat all of your meals and keep snacking healthy in between as it will help you stay full for longer.Remember not to overeat ![7]
- Avoid drinking sweetened or sugary drinks. Sugary drinks are going to bring your calories way higher than you expect it to be. Avoiding sodas, juices, slushies and other sugary drinks will help maintain your shape. Instead, drinking coffee or tea will help you lose your calories!
- Drink water regularly throughout the day. Not staying hydrated can be associated with a higher BMI, and in addition, water can can help you to avoid overeating.[9]
- It's best to drink water before a meal, but not so much that you will be too full to eat too much food.
- Keep in mind that it's possible to become overhydrated too. Although less common than dehydration, and won't be an issue for most, overhydration can lead to severe health problems.[10]
[Edit]Maintaining a Healthy Lifestyle - Sleep for 8 to 9 hours a day.[11] We all need our sleep.
- During this lockdown, sleep is one of the essential things we need, to stay active and healthy. Lack of sleep can cause you to stay inactive and become very tired.
- Try to make a schedule for the day, where you sleep for a minimum of 8 hours for your body to rest completely. This way, your body can relax and prepare for the next day.
- Sleeping early and waking up early is the best option. Try sleeping for 15–20 minutes before your daily exercise. This will help your body rest before working out and will help you feel a lot better.
- Don't get disappointed if your weight doesn't change much right away. Your habits are far more important than the number on the scale.[12]
- Avoid checking your weight often, especially if you have a history of disordered eating habits. Don't check more than once a week, and skip the scale completely if you'd like.
- Exercise with the people you live with (if anyone). If you are in home quarantine, you will not be able to exercise outdoors or with friends, but you can still exercise with the people in your household.
- Study shows that exercising with others brings your mind and body to remain conscious while exercising and help you work harder. If you cannot bring a friend over, try exercising with your family members in your garden or house. [13]
- The best forms of exercise during this situation are cardio workouts. They make your heart rate higher and make you feel active throughout the day, keeping you fit and strong. They make you lose many calories too.
- Try exercising with an app, which has a tracker to keep you informed of how many calories you lose while exercising. Many smartwatches have trackers; try using them.
- Balance your exercise.[14] Perhaps one day you exercise too much and your thighs, arms, and back are hurting, so do a lighter exercise the next day. Science has proven that doing light exercises every day can help build and repair your muscles and tissues, bringing strength within you. You can lose a lot of weight and fat by doing light exercises on one day, and do a slightly harder exercise the next.
- Stay positive. Millions of people out there are suffering, but are slowly recovering too. We should have faith that this pandemic will soon die down.
- Accept your body. Be healthy, not thin. Even if you don't lose weight, you are still healthy and beautiful, just the way you are.[15]
[Edit]Warnings - Don't exercise and do diets too far; you might pass out!
